Coronation Street star confirms he's finished filming with 'twist' ahead

by · Manchester Evening News

Coronation Street star Emrhys Cooper has revealed he's officially finished filming and promised a 'twist' ahead before he disappears from the cobbles.

The actor joined the ITV soap earlier this year as Institute mentor Rowan Cunliffe. The character first appeared when Leanne Battersby accompanied Simon Barlow to one of his seminars at the Chariot Square Hotel.

Leanne was taken aback when the group mentor approached her and offered her some unsolicited advice and it wasn't long before she was recruited by Rowan into the Institute where she found herself unloading her deepest secrets as well as talking to an AI version of her late son, Oliver.

But last month, Corrie fans were led to believe that Rown's comeuppance had been confirmed after Leanne tricked him into revealing his guilt over conning members of The Institute into revealing their innermost thoughts before convincing them to invest in the company.

After Leanne had emailed herself some of the files from his laptop exposing his recording of 'upload' sessions from members as well as banking details, Rowan tried to guilt-trip Leanne into deleting and handing over any copies of the documents, claiming he was a victim of the cult-like Institute as well.

After she handed over what she had, Rowan twisted the knife by insulting Leanne and lifting his victim facade. But it was already too later, as Amy Barlow, Toyah Habeeb and Nick Tilsley arrived as backup and confirmed the police had been called and they were on their way..

Later, it was Nick who told Leanne and Toyah that the police had been in touch, and Rowan had been charged with blackmail and fraud, so he would definitely be going to prison.

But it's not the last Corrie fans will see of Rowan. Speaking to the Metro at the recent Inside Soap Awards 2024, Emrhys said when asked if there was more to come: "Yes – there’s a little bit more left."

He confirmed: "I shot my final episode which is going to air later this year. There’s a little bit more drama ahead, a little twist. It’s been fun and I’d be open to it, if there was the right storyline, for a redemption."

Pondering over what it’s been like to work with so many Corrie legends, Emrhys said: "I felt very grateful. They were pure joy to work with everyday. There might’ve been a lot of drama on-screen but off-screen it was just lots of laughs and fun. They have amazing work ethics and lots of talent.

"Their commitment to the storyline. I feel very lucky that I got to work with those actors in particular. But everyone I encountered at work was great, I was surprised because normally there’s a few divas but I’m yet to meet one at Corrie! Only great energy."
