Emmerdale's much-loved couple 'split' after illegal fight goes wrong

by · Manchester Evening News

Emmerdale has hinted at trouble brewing for Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) and Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) following a disastrous illegal boxing match.

In the recent instalments of the ITV drama, Billy admitted his participation in unlawful boxing after suspecting that promoter Jade had abducted Clemmie and Lucas.

In a state of alarm, financially troubled Billy revealed to Dawn his recent bout with Ross Barton (Michael Parr), leading to them being compelled to engage in a re-match.

Unexpectedly, Dawn suggested to Billy and Ross that they should participate in the fight to appease Jade and make it appear authentic - with Ross emerging as the victor.

During Thursday's (November 7) visit to the village, assertive promoter Jade (Twinnie-Lee Moore) insisted that the bare-knuckle fight occurs in the barn at Butler's Farm, reports Leeds Live.

Meanwhile, Dawn encouraged Billy to adhere to their strategy and allow Ross to win the fight.

However, keen on a good spectacle, Jade proposed a bonus for Billy if he was entertaining, but Dawn assured him they could earn significantly more money if he survived three rounds before Ross knocked him down.

As the fight commenced, Ross provided the entertainment, but it was Billy who seemed to have the advantage.

Dawn observed with a worried look, but as Ross began to dominate the fight, Billy rose from the floor instead of accepting defeat.

John Sugden (played by Oliver Farnworth) interrupted the scene in the barn, warning Aaron (portrayed by Danny Miller) and Mack (Lawrence Robb) about police closing in. The fight was abruptly called off by Jade as her group scrambled to grab their belongings and escape the scene.

The tension spiked when two thugs couldn't find the hidden money, resulting in Aaron trying to stop one from making a run for it only to be punched and knocked down, collapsing to the barn floor in pain.

An officer at the scene promptly called for an ambulance while John leapt into action to help Aaron, with Mack looking on, unable to do anything.

Elsewhere, Dawn and Billy have fled, but she's irate that Billy deviated from the plan during the altercation. While Billy attempted to make amends with an apology, Dawn left him standing alone.

Back at home, Dawn revealed to Billy that she had pawned her wedding ring to gamble on Ross winning the fight, hoping for a windfall. Due to Billy's actions, they lost everything.

Despite Billy's vow to recover the ring, Dawn expressed doubts about their marriage's future.

"Do what you want," she declared. "Get it back, don't get it back. But right now, I don't see myself wearing it again."

Speculation among Emmerdale fans suggests the troubled waters in Billy and Dawn's marriage could lead to her rekindling an old flame with Ross, considering their past.
