A man was forced to leave his £12-a-night hotel after conducting a UV light inspection of the room.

Zac Jones, 27, was left startled by what he found at the Highbury hotel in Blackpool, and refused to stay the night. Having paid a mere £12.80 for his stay, he encountered what he described as some of the "worst" conditions he has come across in any budget hotel.

The video of his examination, showing potential stains across the chair, wardrobe and mattress, went viral on social media. "For £12.80 a night I'm impressed," he remarked. "[But] I'd rather drive home than stay in that bed."

The room, equipped with the usual amenities like coffee, tea, and a kettle, plus a TV, initially didn't seem all that bad, but the UV light uncovered alarming issues. Zak didn't mince words, labelling the room both "horrible" and "atrocious".

He claimed it was "the worst UV light inspection I've ever done". Online commentators shared Zac's disgust, with one saying: "I first thought it wasn't too bad but after this never mind I'll go to a chain hotel."

Another simply stated: "Hell no." While a third said: "I'd be booking a Premier Inn and leaving." Despite the horrified reactions, some held the viewpoint that low prices naturally set the stage for tempered expectations.

"For £12 I think I'd expect worse," commented one user. Another remarked: "For £12.80 I would still sleep in the bed, even if scenes of crime had just left."

Despite leaving early, Zac had no qualms with the hotel staff, describing them as "friendly." He also didn't anticipate a refund, deeming the price "justified" given the room's quality and affordability.

Satisfied with the shared facilities, despite noting some cobwebs and stray hairs, he added: "The room wasn't the worst I've stayed in, despite the price, and I was blown away when the owner said breakfast – and that it was included in the price! "
