The Chase viewers were left gutted when a contestant was tripped up in what they deemed an unfair move.

The popular ITV quiz show, hosted by Bradley Walsh since 2009, sees teams of players take on a high IQ quizmaster for the chance to win a cash prize.

On Wednesday, a team of four hopefuls faced Shaun 'the Dark Destroyer' Wallace in hopes of bagging some cash. However, fans were outraged when one contestant's answer was disallowed - despite many viewers believing it to be correct, the Mirror reports.

The controversy arose during the cash builder round, where 20-year-old Max was answering questions. Bradley asked: "Lebron James is one of so called playmakers for what console brand? "

Max quickly responded with "PS4", only to have his answer rejected. PS4 is short for Playstation 4, the gaming console produced by Japanese tech giant Sony.

Many viewers took to social media to express their frustration at Bradley's strict scoring. One viewer posted on X: "I was waiting for them to allow that!! PS4 is PlayStation!"

Another commented: "PS4 is PlayStation." A further fan added: "Surely you'd accept PS4? " while another grumbled: "Another answer robbed! PS is Playstation!!"

Some viewers insisted the ruling was justifiable in dismissing Max's answer, as the inquiry sought a brand name, not a console model. One individual commented: "Complaints about the PlayStation question, Bradley asked For BRAND, NOT A SPECIFIC CONSOLE! He shouldn't have got through! "

Concurrence came from another observer who noted: "But it's a standalone console, not a console brand."

Echoing earlier sentiments this year, Bradley Walsh has delineated the timeline for his departure from The Chase—a show now gracing our screens for 15 years.

In an interaction with the Daily Mail, he declared: "Until people say they've had enough and start switching off I'll do it. We've had such an extraordinary time together. It's the best job in the world."

Reflecting on the programme's inception, Walsh recounted how he forecasted its success from initial recordings. He reminisced: "The audience was made up of ITV bosses and they found someone in the office to be a contestant.

"Straight away I took the contestant's side. I saw the Chasers as these big, all-knowing, bully types, so I started taking the mickey out of them.

"When they got a question wrong I really gave it to them, and everyone was laughing. That's when I knew we had something. Normally with a quiz show you're handcuffed to the format, but this meant I could go off script and improvise.

"It was like doing stand-up in the middle of a quiz show, which I loved. So right from that very first run-through I thought this could be special."
