The family of young TikTok star Taylor Rousseau Grigg have opened up about the cause of her death.

The star sadly passed away on October 4 at the age of 25. Her husband, Cameron Grigg, said last week that his wife "dealt with more pain and suffering" in the past year than "people do in a lifetime."

Speaking to Today, Taylor's family confirmed that she had died after suffering complications from asthma and Addison's disease. According to the NHS, Addison's disease is a a rare disorder of the adrenal glands.

The adrenal glands are two glands that sit on top of the kidneys and produce two essential hormones - cortisol and aldosterone. When the gland is damaged, it means that not enough cortisol or aldosterone is produced. The disease is more common in women than men and can affect people of any age, though more common in those aged 30 to 50.

Symptoms can include lack of energy, muscle weakness, low mood, loss of appetite and increased thirst. These symptoms can develop over time and become more severe. Some sufferers also experience symptoms such as fainting, cramps, dizziness and exhaustion.

As reported in the Mirror, Taylor spoke candidly about her health problems in August. However, she never specifically opened up about a diagnosis.

Addressing her 1.4 million followers, she revealed that she was "not healthy and in good shape" and hadn't been "in a long time" despite once being "very athletic".

She tied the knot with her husband in August last year. She explained this time that she explained she "got sick" and learned that she had a "forever" diagnosis.

Taylor said: “You’re seeing me be sick for the whole time that we’re married and not finding out what was wrong until this year … I barely found out what was wrong with me. I was struggling that whole time feeling like I was going to die. It just sucks because I’m 24 years old, I should be in my prime, I should be able to carry my suitcase up the stairs, I should be able to walk to the mailbox, or run, and those are just things that I can’t really do right now."

Her husband broke the heartbreaking news of her death last week in a lengthy post, saying: "No one ever expects to have to deal with this kind of pain and heartache, especially at our age."

His heartfelt message was accompanied by a collection of pictures of the young couple.

He said: "While her earthly body is still here waiting to give the gift of life, we know her spirit is in heaven dancing in the streets made of gold with all her beauty and grace."
