Sydnie Christmas talks 'unfair' moment on BGT and almost quitting before major turnaround

EXCLUSIVE: Britain's Got Talent winner and Amanda Holden's golden buzzer act Sydnie Christmas said she almost quit her singing dream, before the show turned her life around

Britain's Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas has candidly spoken out about her journey on the show which catapulted her to stardom. The 29-year-old singing sensation captured hearts with her rendition of Frank Sinatra's My Way in her first audition, which led to Amanda Holden pressing the golden buzzer.

Despite cherishing every second on the show, the Kent-born star took issue with two things during the live shows, which left her feeling anxious. She shared: "Both the semi-final and final, for one, I went last and I nearly threw up. They kept putting me on last, I was like, 'Guys, this is not fair two days in a row, Oh My Goodness'."

She also recounted the nerve-wracking wait to hear if she'd won, adding: "And then, it was the waiting before they announced who won, it was awful. I nearly had a full-on panic attack."

After clinching victory in the final with a whopping 27.2 per cent of the vote share, Sydnie has since had an in-demand schedule which includes a performance at the Royal Variety Performance and a gig at the Hollywood Bowl stage for David Foster's 75th birthday celebrations next month.

Recalling the invitation to sing alongside renowned artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé and Jennifer Hudson, she shared: "It was crazy, it was over FaceTime so I tried to keep it cool, but after I couldn't cope with that, that's a dream come true. I won't believe it until I'm there doing it, I think," reports the Mirror.

Such opportunities almost never happened for the singer, who considered abandoning her performing dreams in favour of stability and starting a family. Before the show, she had auditioned for many different roles from a young age, and managed to secure four professional roles, but nothing long-term.

Recalling this period of time, she said: "Then, I was going to stop it all now because I'm older and there's just no stability in it, and I would like to be a mother at some point, so I needed to start.

"I was going to throw in the towel and then I just went onto BGT, because I was brave enough and at the end, thought I had nothing to lose, and look what happened."

Asked if Amanda had conveyed her best wishes for her upcoming US performance, Sydnie added: "She's always been supportive and she always likes stuff on Instagram, yeah, I think I'll see her again at some point.

"She's only a phone call away if I need to ask her for advice if I need her, which is very kind of her."

Sydnie kicks off her My Way tour next February performing across many UK locations including; Canterbury, Liverpool and Sheffield.

This year's Royal Variety Performance would be also held on Friday 22 November 2024.
