Kate Middleton reportedly has a 'secret code' she uses to keep her children in check when they're misbehaving.

This catchphrase is said to help 'calm the children', particularly during public royal events. The Prince and Princess of Wales, known for their hands-on parenting style with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, often allow the public to see their children's playful personalities.

The youngsters are infamous for making funny faces during public appearances, while little Louis grabbed headlines at the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

However, when Kate feels their antics are going too far, she resorts to a 'code' to issue a warning, reports OK! This was disclosed by royal expert Tom Quinn in his book Gilded Youth, An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family.

He wrote: "When Prince Louis misbehaved at the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee for example, by sticking his tongue out at his mother, Kate's reaction was praised by a team of expert commentators. She apparently used a secret code to calm the children, as she does on occasions - she simply says 'let's take a break'. But as a former staffer explained, the children know these few words carry far more weight than we might imagine."

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are accustomed to adhering to strict rules, even within the comfort of their home, Adelaide Cottage. Whenever emotions escalate or tempers fray, Kate and William employ a 'sofa chat' approach with their children.

This method ensures the young royals feel supported, rather than isolated, as they navigate their emotions and come to terms with the situation at hand.

The royal couple also enforces a 'no shouting' policy, whereby any child who raises their voice is removed from the situation. Interestingly, Kate and William maintain their composure, refraining from raising their voices when disciplining the children.

A royal insider previously revealed to The Sun that Kate tends to be "slightly stricter" than William. The couple's trusted nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, always aligns with them on matters of discipline.

The source explained: "Maria is firm but she never acts unilaterally with the children on discipline. Kate and William, along with Maria, are strict with the children but have this magic ability to appear not to be. It is a military operation but you would never guess it because they work ferociously hard on their children's upbringing and making it seem relaxed and happy for the three of them. They are very good at listening to the children but being firm."

Maria has served as the cherished royal nanny since 2014, coming from the balmy climes of Spain with a stellar education background from the revered Norland College, famous for its avant-garde approach to childcare education.

Royal commentator Victoria Murphy shared insights with ABC News in May 2015, noting, "The nannies are taught everything from defensive driving to security issues to how to care for a future king or queen."

She went on to say, "So [Borrallo] just really knows everything that you could possibly need to know about bringing up a child."
