Yet another star of Strictly Come Dancing has been injured, as the show is plunged into a fresh crisis.
Professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova, who was paired with Olympic hunk Tom Dean for the 2024 season, broke her thumb during practice. While the 35-year-old dancer has been eliminated from the main competition, she continues to perform dance routines with the other pros, reports the Mirror.
Nadiya fell on her hand during a rehearsal session for this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing shows, breaking a bone in her thumb. The celebrity was treated on the set shortly following the incident, which is said to have occurred on Wednesday.
She apparently received an X-Ray, which verified a broken bone, and was then ordered to rest. It has now been revealed that she will sit out several scenes this weekend, but has been permitted to film some routines for future shows.
A source told The Sun: “Nadiya was training with the other pros when she fell. Her thumb basically snapped and it looked incredibly painful. Everyone crowded around her."
The source added: “Nadiya’s thumb was badly swollen and bruised, but she doesn’t want to let anyone down and is adamant she can do the pre-recorded number. A doctor eventually cleared her and she will be able to film, but might be treated with kid gloves by fellow pros."
The source went on to say that the Ukrainian dancer is putting on a brave face despite the painful injury and has vowed to carry on as much as she can on the show. The Mirror has contacted the BBC for comment about the incident.
Nadiya's injury comes amid fears she is on the cusp of quitting the series - with many fans noting she has seemed unhappy in the 2024 run following her split from fellow professional, Kai Widdrington. Taking to social media to discuss apparent on-screen tension, one fan wrote this week: "I truly believe a lot of the pros will end up leaving after this year for various reasons. Nadiya- inevitable, she seems p***** at her treatment this year and years priors and the whole awkwardness with Kai doesn’t help."
Another commented: "Kai and Nadia, personally, I find them utterly forgettable so I can’t say I would be sad to see them go if I’m honest." While a further predicted: "I imagine Kai will stay if Nadiya leaves." And yet another fan added: "Kai, he’s had two great runs so one benched year wouldn’t affect that as much especially if they go back to a more even male/female split in celebs next year and he’s more likely to stay if Nadiya leaves."
