Titan submersible 'malfunctioned' days before fatal trip to Titanic

An inquiry into the Titan submersible disaster - which saw all five on board perish as it was being lowered into the Atlantic to see the Titanic wreckage - has heard the vessel had an issue days earlier.

The Titan submersible, which tragically imploded resulting in the loss of all crew members during a dive to the Titanic, had experienced malfunctions just days before the fatal incident, an inquiry into the disaster heard.

Steven Ross, the scientific director for the company that owned the ill-fated vessel, was summoned to testify before a US coast guard panel. Today, he informed the board about a "platform issue" that the experimental sub encountered in June 2023, reports the Mirror.

During this incident, passengers onboard were thrown around and it took an hour to rescue them from the water.

Just days later, the submersible was deployed into the Atlantic. British adventurer Hamish Harding, father and son Shahzada and Suleman Dawood, OceanGate Expeditions' CEO Stockton Rush, and Frenchman Paul-Henri Nargeolet tragically lost their lives when the vessel imploded on its descent into the depths.
