Fans of the hit historical drama were sent into a frenzy by Sam Heughan’s adorable throwback snap to weeks before he first set foot onto the Outlander set

Outlander star Sam Heughan was all smiles in a touching throwback photo taken before his first days filming as Jamie Fraser.

The Scottish heartthrob first took on the role of the beloved Highlander in 2014 opposite his screen partner Caitriona Balfe as Jamie’s love interest Claire Randall.

After some whirlwind adventures across history and the globe, Claire and Jamie finally returned to Scotland at the end of last year’s midseason finale.

Millions of Outlander fans are now awaiting the start of season seven, part two, which will kick off on Starz and MGM+ via Prime Video in just over a month’s time.

In the meantime, the cast has recently wrapped up the eighth and final season of the Frasers’ adventures and have been reminiscing about the show on Instagram.

Jamie and Claire will be back on screens next month

Heughan recently shared a photo of himself 10 years ago next to the Ghostbusters’ iconic Ecto-1 alongside a much more recent photo next to the same recognisable movie vehicle.

He wrote in the caption: “10 years apart….

“2014 weeks before beginning Outlander S1. 2024 week after Outlander S8 wrap

“@sonypictures Studios Who ya gonna call…”

His 4.3 million followers went wild in the comments, with one fan remarking: “You are like wine, the older you are, the better you get!”

Another replied: “Love the nostalgia! Just crazy it’s been 10 years. So sad to see it come to an end, but thankful to be able to watch it over and over. “

“The circle has come full turn,” a third commented. “You’ve taken us on an incredible journey. You are an extraordinary artist. I wish you all the best.”

A fourth said: “10 years apart...?!? Never... I can't see any difference at all.”

And a final fan replied: “The nostalgia must be unreal! [ghost emoji] Spoiler? Congratulations Sam, JAMMF will never fail to haunt me forever. I will be calling up my Sassenach sistahs!”

Jamie famously appears as a ghostly manifestation in the very first episode of Outlander; a mystery which has yet to be solved.

As for Heughan, what his next role will be after saying goodbye to Jamie is unknown.

Could a part in the next Ghostbusters film be on the cards?

Outlander season seven part two premieres on Friday, November 22, on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
