It's so important checking your stash at home every once in a while.
Without you even realising, there could be Pokemon cards or rare coins worth an absolute fortune. Now in a recent post on TikTok, user @CoinCollectingWizard showed what two weeks of saving silver coins really looks like.
He also shared three specific designs to keep an eye on, from a London Olympics 2012 coin to a 2023 design which has overtaken the Kew Gardens 50p. The clip starts with a voiceover showing "two weeks of saving silver coins".
The person added: "How much do you think we have saved? Do you know the rare ones to look for?" Next up, the TikTok user, who has 208,000 followers, unveiled an iconic coin which features an error on the front.
He said: "If you find an Aquatic 50p error coin with lines over the face, it could be worth a small fortune. A small handful of this original design was put into circulation but it was then adapted very quickly to show the face above the water.
"With so few of the original design out there, it's meant the coin's value has been pushed up significantly. This 20p is known as the undated 20p mule error.
"Considered by many as one of the 'holy grails of UK change', collecting the undated 20p is always at the top of any coin collectors' wish list. £50 if you find this beauty."
Finishing off the post, he concluded: "And finally, the Atlantic Salmon 50p worth £100, the coin has now officially overtaken the Kew Gardens 50p which had a mintage of 210,000 when it was introduced in 2009.
"And now the 2023 Atlantic Salmon 50p is the most sought-after 50p in circulation." Since the video was posted, the video racked up hundreds of likes and some comments. One said: "Two weeks, wow really?" Then another added: "You've done a good job."
Fortunately, there are many ways to find a rare coin in your pocket. Firstly, coins with limited mintage are often in circulation, so it's always best to check your change for anything unusual before spending it.
You should also look for coins in places which are not often occupied, like abandoned houses and beneath bridges. Meanwhile a metal detector is a great way to strike gold, as well as joining a coin swap community.
Alternatively, make sure you have a glance at auctions or even eBay as some of the rarest coins are usually selling there. We've seen quirky designs flog for hundreds and even thousands online.
