Drying clothes during the colder months can feel near impossible, but you’ll save time and frustration this winter using a little-known hack that dries clothes in a fraction of the time.

Clothes seem to dry instantly in the summer months when the sun is out and temperatures lend themselves to household chores like laundry. For everyone dreading another winter grappling with damp washing, this easy trick is calling your name.

The tip comes as energy costs are increasing, and some dryers can even use up to £1.76 per cycle , which can quickly accumulate. In a recent video, Nicola revealed a “secret” washing machine feature that every home in the UK should know about heading into this autumn.

The Instagram reel begins with Nicola dialing her washing machine to the "Drum/Spin" setting, accompanied by the caption "Double Spin for the Win."

Nicola says that her tip ensures your clothes will be drier straight out of the washing machine. After the wash cycle finishes, she leaves her clothes in the drum and runs a spin cycle.

This setting doesn’t add any water but the extra spin pulls moisture from the clothes.

The caption on Nicola’s Instagram reads: “Double spin your laundry! Your clothes will come out much drier allowing them to dry quicker. Always give your clothes a quick shake before hanging to dry to remove any creases."

The influencer recommends some other tricks to ensure your clothes dry as efficiently as possible this winter.

She recommends investing in a dehumidifier, which she says will “draw moisture from the air and dry your clothes quicker. If you don't have a dehumidifier, open a window and place the airer near natural light."

You can also consider maximising cost by heating just one room in the house, and drying clothes on a rack in the heated room.

She says that a fan can also help to "circulate cold air helping your clothes to dry faster and prevent mould", adding that it's "cheaper than putting the heating on".

Nicola reminds viewers to space out clothes on the drying rack and rotate the clothes a few times.

Nicola's followers praised the influencer’s handy knowledge, with one writing: "We've just invested in a dehumidifier and it's bloody amazing."

Another commented: "No more condensation on the windows and that battle with mould feels like a distant memory!"

A third added: "Very pleased but don't forget to double spin!"
