Kathryn Hahn ‘Came Up’ With ‘Agatha All Along’ Nude Scene, a First for a Woman in the MCU

Both the Hulk and Thor have bared their bottoms on the big screen, but Hahn showing a little tush was a new prospect entirely.

For those who’ve watched the first episode of the “WandaVision” spinoff “Agatha All Along,” you’ll know there’s an unexpected moment around the halfway mark that will make you wonder if you’re watching it on Disney+ or HBO (sorry, Max). Episode 1 starts with Kathryn Hahn‘s Agatha Harkness trapped in a true-crime version of life similar to “Mare of Easttown,” a result of the spell Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) put on her at the end of “WandaVision.” Thankfully, Rio (Aubrey Plaza) invades the spell to remind her of who she is, pushing her to strip through all the characters she’s played in her attempt to steal Wanda’s chaos magic, until finally, she’s completely nude.

“Well, I came up with it,” Hahn said in a recent interview with Variety. “I thought it was good to see her as stripped down, literally, as we possibly could, which spoke into her powerlessness at the present moment.”

For those concerned with full nudity in a show geared largely towards kids, Hahn’s breasts are covered by her hair, and her butt is only seen in a brief shot. Nonetheless, seeing her parade around the neighborhood in the buff certainly makes an impact, especially considering it marks the first time a woman has bared any part of their body in the MCU, but Hahn knew it would be important to Agatha’s narrative.

“She’s been stripped of all of her power at this point in the series,” said Hahn. “I mean, she really had nothing at that point, and so it became about illustrating that gap between that moment and her finding her power again.”

Initially the scene was written by series creator Jac Schaeffer to have Agatha grab a robe before she walked outside, but Hahn knew the moment could pack a bigger punch.

“Kathryn was like, ‘Would she grab the robe? I don’t feel like she would grab the robe. I feel like she would really not care about being naked in front of the neighbors,’” Schaeffer said. “I told her, ‘That is the greatest idea I’ve ever heard.’ Kathryn has done so much work, and she’s done a lot of nudity and other things, and so it also felt very subversive to get Kathryn Hahn’s nudity into the MCU.”
