A new culture space in Bristol will host its first music event tomorrow as it opens its doors since rebranding. The Prospect Building in St Philips, formerly known as Propyard, will welcome Overmono tomorrow (Saturday, September 28) after being closed since April.

The new owners of the building, AMAAD, have invested £500,000 in redeveloping the former warehouse into a new cultural space which can host music events, markets, comedians and even boxing events. After taking over Propyard in June, Prospect will have a maximum capacity of 4,900 people when using the full venue.

The main stage of the venue will be able to hold 3,500 people in a single room, making it Bristol's biggest single-room capacity in a venue. Prospect will be equipped with laser mapping to create immersive light displays, another first, and platforms on wheels will constantly change how the venue feels creating a unique experience every time.

The bars, which were located at the main stage, have moved to the second stage, named Room two, which contains a 360 degree stage rig. The stages will be additionally equipped with low-level smoke.

The venue will specialise in day-time events, running from 12pm to 10pm mostly. Paul Jack, the co-founder of AMAAD, said that having day-time events creates a better atmosphere and would contribute more to the local economy. Mr Jack said that he is very excited about the opening of the venue tomorrow.

“It is surprising how far we have come in a short space of time [since taking over in June]. It will be a pretty special moment tomorrow for the whole team as this has felt very personal to all of us.

“We have redone all the electrics and redesigned all the lights. We have rebuilt the exterior and fitted a laser mapping system as well as new soundproofing to create Prospect, and we are very excited to see what people think.”
