Blind belief or foolishness: Devotees drink AC water at temple as ‘Charanamrit’, Watch viral video

India is well known for their religious beliefs and numerous number of temples holding deities, whom netizens worship as their gods and seek blessings. Vrindavan, is a famous holy place in the country, which is said to be the residence of lord krishna. Thousands of devotees visit Vrindavan everyday to visit the Krishna temples there to seek blessing of the divine lord. However, sometimes people’s action goes beyond the act of devotion to the border of foolishness. A recent video shared on social media platform X shows devotees visiting a temple in Vrindavan, queuing up to drink ‘Charanamrit’ or holy water from the feet of Lord Krishna. However, they didn’t know that the dripping “holy water” from the mouth of an elephant sculpture was actually AC water.

In fact, the devotees continue to drink the AC water taking it as “holy water” even after someone warns them about it.The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The viral video was reportedy from Banke Bihari Mandir in Mathura, Vrindavan. It shows dozens of devotees standing in lines to drink water trickling down from an elephant sculpture on the wall. Some devotees even collect the water in  cups, others cupped their palms to get a few drops of what they believed was coming from Thakur-ji’s feet.

However, that is not the case. The water is reportedly trickling down from a AC pipes which were shaped like elephants, integrated into the temple’s architecture.

Meanwhile, several priests at the temple also clarified that the water was from the ACs and not from Thakur-ji’s feet. The man capturing the video also warned the people about it being AC water but, the devotees continued to drink the water or splashing it over them.

AC water should not be consumed as it can prove dangerous as it contains various functions and bacteria.

The comment section was filled with varying reactions from netizens. While some thought it was a lack of scientific temperament, others blamed the temple management for not putting up a notice there.

One user commented, “A mind without scientific temper is the birthplace of myths, superstition, hate, and division. It’s a threat to democracy and promotes herd mentality.” Another commented, “It’s not even bhakti; it is the fear that makes people think that if they don’t drink this water, somehow they aren’t going to get enough blessings compared to those who did!!.”

“Who knew a little AC could turn into a divine experience? Just wait until they start calling it ‘Heavenly Hydration!” a user quoted.

Several users suggested that it was the management’s job to bring facts to people’s notice. “At least the temple trust could have put a notice there cautioning people,” a user said. “Temple administration must put a board there,” another added.
