Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, made a public appearance in Southport on Wednesday, alongside her husband, Prince William. This was the couple's first joint public engagement after Kate Middleton completed her chemotherapy.

The royal couple met with the families of three children who were tragically killed in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event in Southport in July.

They also met representatives from local emergency services who had responded to the incident.

They contributed to a fundraiser by the national police and wellbeing service. The donation aimed at providing psychological and physical rehabilitation for the police and ambulance personnel involved in the tragic event.

Calling the attack "horrid and heinous", the royal couple tweeted, "As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through. We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack. Thank you also to the emergency responders who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most."

Kate has been undertaking light public works since she announced, in a video message on September 9, that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment, six months after revealing she had an undisclosed type of cancer.

Earlier on September 23, the Princess of Wales made her first public appearance. Kate and Prince William, were seen attending church with King Charles III and Queen Camilla near their royal Balmoral estate in Scotland.

While Kate was undergoing preventative chemotherapy for cancer, she made a rare public appearance at the Wimbledon's men's final in July, which marked her second public appearance this year.
