Charlie Hunnam is set to take on the role of notorious serial killer Ed Gein in the upcoming third season of Netflix's hit anthology series Monster. The announcement was made by series co-creator Ryan Murphy during a promotional event in Los Angeles for Monster Season 2, which revolves around the Menendez brothers - Erik and Lyle - and the murder of their parents.

Gein, hailing from Wisconsin like the Season 1 focus, Jeffrey Dahmer, became infamous in the 1950s for his horrific crimes. Authorities discovered that in addition to murdering several individuals, Gein had also exhumed graves near his home, using human remains to create household items and clothing.

His gruesome acts inspired some of the most iconic characters in pop culture, including Norman Bates from Psycho and Buffalo Bill from The Silence of the Lambs.

Monster first gained widespread attention with its debut season, which centered on Dahmer, played by Evan Peters. Now, with Hunnam stepping into the chilling role of Gein, Season 3 promises to explore the dark and disturbing legacy of one of America's most infamous killers.
