In Short

  • Vettaiyan released in theatres on October 10
  • The film boasts of a star-studded cast, including, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati
  • The action drama is directed by TJ Gnanavel

Superstar Rajinikanth and director TJ Gnanavel's latest outing, Vettaiyan, released in theatres on October 10. Ahead of the film's release approaches, advance ticket bookings are in full swing. The star-studded cast of Vettaiyan caught everyone's attention when it was announced. However, it could be either its strongest asset or a potential threat to the action drama, which carries a solid message.

Vettaiyan brings together two legends, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, 33 years after Hum. Apart from the two actors, the film also features Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier and Abhirami in pivotal roles. Young and promising actors, Dushara Vijayan and Ritika Singh, who have delivered strong performances in their previous films, are also part of the cast.

While the advance booking for Vettaiyan looks promising, a huge challenge awaits for the film.

Here's the trailer:

With director TJ Gnanavel at the helm, one can be sure that the film will be much more than a star vehicle. Going by the trailer, Vettaiyan will address extrajudicial killings and the ethical dilemmas surrounding them. His previous film, Jai Bhim, starring Suriya, Manikandan and Lijomol Jose, tackled issues of police brutality, custodial torture and caste injustice.

Though TJ Gnanavel has a star-studded cast to carry the message forward, it could also pose a threat to the film. With Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati and Manju Warrier in the mix, a lot rides on TJ Gnanavel to pen solid roles for these powerful performers. If there is no proper character arc for these performers, it may undermine the hype surrounding the film..

Take, for example, director Nelson Dilipkumar's Jailer. The film brought together Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff. However, from the day of the announcement, he made it clear that the stars from the other film industries would be playing cameo roles.

Here's the trailer of Jailer:

But, that's not the case with Vettaiyan. Director TJ Gnanavel promised a content-oriented film, and it is to be seen if the roles justify the star power of Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati and Manju Warrier.

In recent interviews, the filmmaker mentioned that Vettaiyan is high on content. He also deliberately asked music director Anirudh Ravichander to not go for a thumping background music so that the attention of the audience stays on the story and not on the songs.

Vettaiyan is an action drama that could be a great blend of content and star power. And we will know if director TJ Gnanavel has struck the right notes when the film releases on October 10.
