A petition has been launched in a bid to stop the inflation on ticket prices after thousands of furious Coldplay fans missed out on tickets to the band's gigs next year.

General sale opened at 9am on Friday for their Music of the Spheres UK tour and immediately the queue was more than 100,000 deep as fans clamoured to get hold of a ticket. Fed up fans fumed at Ticketmaster in the UK over the lengthy queues.

As many as 37,000 disgruntled punters have signed a Change.org petition calling on Ticketmaster and other platforms to “stop the inflation of ticket prices”.

Earlier this month, over 67,000 people supported a Change.org petition calling for Ticketmaster to stop using its “dynamic pricing” model after it was used for ticket sales for Oasis’ reunion tour.

Although Coldplay confirmed it would not use the dynamic pricing model for its own tour, disappointed fans have still expressed their anger on social media, bemoaning both the queuing system and the pricing. One fan said: “Ticketmaster offered me £195 tickets 4 times for Coldplay and then booted me to the back of the queue.”

Lana Hughes, who launched the petition to curtail ticket price inflation, wrote: “This hike in costs has out-priced many genuine fans, restricting ticket availability essentially to the wealthy. The system of pricing tickets seemingly operates with no clear rationale; 'Platinum' tickets on Ticketmaster can be triple the price of the seat next to it, with no discernible perks to justify the exorbitant cost.

“Furthermore, resale websites take advantage of fans by marking up ticket prices to double, triple, or even quadruple their face value. Concert-going is a cultural experience that should be accessible to all, not a luxury that only the affluent can afford.”

The UK Government has already promised a probe into Ticketmaster in the UK. The Competition and Markets Authority, which is leading the investigation, said: “The investigation will consider a variety of things, including whether Ticketmaster has engaged in unfair commercial practices which are prohibited…[and whether] people were put under pressure to buy tickets within a short period of time – at a higher price than they understood they would have to pay, potentially impacting their purchasing decisions.”

Coldplay are to make history by becoming the first music act to play 10 nights at London's Wembley Stadium in a single tour, breaking a record jointly held by Taylor Swift and Take That. The band, who recently played a four-night run at Croke Park in Dublin, had initially announced a six-night run at Wembley next year but added four more shows due to "phenomenal demand".

Coldplay said on X earlier this week: "Due to phenomenal demand in the presale, ninth and tenth Wembley Stadium shows have just been announced, for 7 & 8 September, 2025. The presale for these extra shows will begin at 2.30pm BST today, to those with presale access. The presale for the first eight Wembley shows has now ended. The general sale for all UK shows will begin tomorrow (Friday) at 9am BST."
