Richard Madeley has made a surprising revelation about his sleeping arrangements with Judy Finnigan.

The 68-year-old TV presenter and his wife, 76, became national favourites while presenting ITV's This Morning together from the late '80s to 2001. After presenting Loose Women, Judy decided to step back from the limelight nearly 10 years ago, while Richard continued working on TV.

Since 2022, he has been presenting Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid from Monday to Thursday. Since the show airs at 6am, the cast have to wake up in the middle of the night to get to the TV studios.

Richard said that this has meant he has had to change his sleeping habits to avoid disturbing Judy while getting ready for work. Talking on Kate Thornton's podcast, White Wine Question Time, the presenter said he and his wife sleep separately on the days he works on the ITV show.

He said: "When I'm doing Good Morning Britain I sleep in the spare room. I do probably sleep a little bit better in bed with Judy but I'm okay on my own." Pondering the notion of disrupting Judy's precious rest, he quipped: "I wouldn't think of doing that to Judy. Apart from anything else, Judy and her sleep, you do not mess with."

Fellow morning presenter Amol Rajan was mentioned by Kate as someone who claims to "sleep better" with his spouse, despite their merry band of four youngsters under seven, which dictates early mornings for them both when he's at the helm of the Today show, the Express reported. And Richard noted with a hint of admiration: "Amol Rajan's wife must be a saint."

He then recalled his own experience, saying: "We did This Morning, but the difference between me and Amol there is that Judy and I would get up at the same time." Reflecting on their shared routine, Richard added: "The alarm would go off, we'd both get up and roll into our jeans, get in the car, and drive to Liverpool to do the show, and then when we were in London, drive down to the Southbank. So we went to bed at the same time and woke up at the same time."

The television duo first crossed paths back in the '80s while working on separate shows for Granada TV. Richard recounted a tale about Judy, revealing: "I heard she was 'dicing [an executive] into small cubes with her tongue' after he said 'something sexist'."

During an interview with the Guardian in 2014, Richard fondly recollected: "I thought, wow I'm going to marry her." They got married in 1986 and have two children, Jack and Chloe. Before meeting Richard, Judy was married to David Henshaw and had two children with him, Tom and Dan.
