Max just released the first teaser trailer for the season, which will be based on the video game The Last of Us Part II. Its official logline reads, "After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

The showrunners have said that the series will likely continue to Season 3, if not Season 4. Max / Via youtube.com

The trailer shows Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey returning as Joel and Ellie respectively, following the cataclysmic events of the end of the first season. Both can be seen playing the guitar at moments, which should poke you directly in the soul if you've played the game.

We also have the return of the infected, lest the depravity of man distract you from the fact that this is a fungus zombie show.

I will say two words that have stuck with me from the game: hospital basement.

We also get our first look at some MAJOR characters that will be introduced this season. As not to spoil it for the non-gamers, it will simply be stated that Kaitlyn Dever will be Abby:

Isabela Merced will be Dina:

Jeffrey Wright will be Issac, who he actually played in the video game:

We also have Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.

Catherine O’Hara features heavily in the trailer as a therapist-type, urging Joel to "say the thing you're afraid to say. Say it out loud, no matter what it is, no matter how bad. What did you do?" Her guest role is currently unconfirmed.

How exciting! The Last of Us Season 2 will be released in 2025.
