Strictly Come Dancing star sets record straight on 'chemistry' with pro in 'curse' remark
by Matt Jackson · DevonLiveStrictly Come Dancing's Jamie Borthwick has addressed the show's notorious "curse", discussing his relationship with professional dancer Michelle Tsiakkas.
The 30-year-old is participating in the 20th series of Strictly after winning the Christmas special in 2023. He is juggling Strictly alongside his regular job on EastEnders, which he joined in 2006.
And while Jamie and Michelle have been impressing fans with their chemistry on the dance floor, he says there is no risk of them falling for the so-called Strictly "curse". The 'Strictly curse' refers to the idea that participating in Strictly – as a celebrity or a professional – threatens the status of the relationship you’re in when you sign up.

This series however, Jamie says there have been no signs of any romances between the famous faces or their professional partners. Speaking to Closer magazine, Jamie revealed: "But with the old Strictly curse, you definitely ain't got no worries with Michelle.
"She's like a sister, mum and auntie all rolled into one. We've got sibling chemistry."
Jamie says he has taken Michelle to Albert Square and is keen to show her around the rest of the sets. He even wants to get her to film a scene as his long-lost sister.
Jamie and Michelle aren't the only pairing in this series to have faced possible romance rumours. Pete Wicks was asked about his relationship with professional Jowita Przystal when he appeared on This Morning.
During an interview with Alison Hammond on ITV's This Morning, Pete was questioned about his relationship with Jowita, 30. He clarified: "It's not a love bubble, unfortunately. We have great chemistry because we've become such good friends."
He added, "She's one of the most amazing people I've ever met, genuinely, not just in the dancing side of things, but outside of that. And I think that helps us with the whole dancing thing."
