Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman confessed that her ideal outfit to wear while presenting the show was rejected by the BBC.

In a chat with co-host Tess Daly's other half Vernon Kay on his BBC Radio 2 show, the much-loved Strictly Come Dancing host revealed her thwarted desire for a very specific style of attire.

"I wanted to look like a male mature French student. Let's call him Jean, he's in Lyon, he's on the way to a lecture, he's studying Physics, and, he's got a scarf on, he's got a skinny black pair of trousers, he might have a turtleneck", Claudia explained.

She jokingly painted the picture of her fashion muse: "On the way, he's walking, it's damp, it's November. Guess what he goes past? A small pirate fancy dress shop, he picks up something. That's my person."

Nevertheless, Claudia revealed that BBC chiefs did not approve her sartorial choice: "You can't dress as Jean, you have to be somebody else."

Vernon Kay chimed in, suggesting that there must be one particular segment of Strictly she adores. He speculated that during 'movie week', Claudia revels in the chance to break away from the norm given the segment's penchant for cinematic flair, allowing hosts and contestants to don attire reminiscent of iconic film characters.

The television icon agreed, indicating that episode permits a venture beyond her standard 'uniform': "The only way to get me out of my uniform, is to dress up as somebody. One year it was Anita Dobson, my most successful year, the next year it was Pat Butcher."

"It's not that you're dressing like them, because these are heroes, so you're not taking the mick, but what you're doing is (thinking) would they think this is alright? Would Anita Dobson say, 'tick'? ".

Claudia first graced the popular BBC programme in 2010, co-hosting the Sunday night results show with Tess Daly. In 2014, she joined Tess on the main Saturday night show following Sir Bruce Forsyth's departure.
