The Wikipedia page for the remake of Silent Hill 2 has been locked after a number of trolls attacked it.

The long-awaited remake of Silent Hill 2 is due for release later this week (October 8) but the horror has already been widely praised by critics, while those who have early access to the game have helped give it an “overwhelming positive” score on Steam.

“We are absolutely thrilled about the scores Silent Hill 2 has received from the global media. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” wrote developers Bloober Team, alongside a poster that showcased a number of glowing reviews.

However, a number of disgruntled fans have spent their weekend trying to edit the Silent Hill 2 Wikipedia pageto make it look like the game has been panned. To stop the trolling, mods have temporarily locked the page, so only verified users can make edits. According to the history of the page, this has been done due to “persistent disruptive editing”.

Some fans think the backlash is due to developers changing the appearance of Silent Hill 2’s primary protagonist Maria to match the original concept art, while others believe some fans just want the game to fail.

Early in 2023, developers reassured fans that the Silent Hill 2 remake would only make “safe changes” to the game but after months of silence, the studio then asked fans for “patience”. Earlier this year, a divisive trailer showcased new, Resident Evil-inspired combat while Bloober claimed the video didn’t “reflect the spirit” of the remake and blamed publisher Konami for how it was being advertised.

In other news, the complete Astro Bot soundtrack is now available to stream, featuring over 100 songs from the game. It comes ahead of a free update that will add five new speedrunning levels to the game, alongside ten new special bots.
