A Great British Bake Off contestant has addressed her worrying moment on the show when she fainted during filming.

Illiyin Morrison, a birth trauma specialist midwife, left viewers shocked when she suddenly became unwell in the midst of the latest series. The incident occurred during the final showstopper challenge, where Morrison had just finished her edible biscuit puppet theatre and began to feel ill.

As the round concluded, audiences witnessed her collapse.

Medical staff were quick to respond, placing her in the recovery position. Once she regained consciousness, Morrison was heard saying, "I just feel dizzy."

However, she managed to inject some humour into the situation by joking, "Handshake first episode, fainted the second," while host Noel Fielding showcased her bake, reports the Mirror.

Taking to Instagram, where she boasts 57,900 followers, the Norfolk-born baker reassured fans: "I'm fine. Mortified but fine," accompanied by a kiss-face emoji. She continued, expressing her feelings about the ordeal: "If I'm honest. I feel weird. So weird. Thank you for all of the love and the checking in. I hope you were able to enjoy the camaraderie and what always matters is authenticity and I think that showed this evening."

Illiyin later took to Instagram to explain the circumstances surrounding her collapse, revealing she had been running on "pure adrenaline" and hadn't eaten since the previous day. She wrote: "And to all those who noticed thank you for recognising my advocacy. I told you it might look different but it's always there."

She continued: "The moment they called time on the challenge my shoulders dropped in relief and my body followed. I've never fainted in my life. Cue panic attack when coming around. Leave it to me to faint in a big white tent in a field on national TV. I was enveloped by a sense of deep shame and watching it again has made it feel even worse. As someone who works to support people through their shame, I know it's internal and I know it takes work."

Tuesday night's episode saw more drama unfold as one contestant, New Yorker Jeff, decided to leave the competition, just a week after being forced to sit out due to illness. "I've had enough. I'm done," he declared while exiting the set.

Cameras captured the shock among the other bakers as they processed his departure. A worried Mike inquired, "He's gone, gone? Oh bless him."

Outside the tent, Jeff was met by host Alison Hammond who comforted him with an embrace.

"Are you alright Jeff? " she questioned, to which he responded: "I'm done."

Hammond empathetically replied, "You tried man. You tried."

Subsequently, in a separate segment, the judges reflected on his sudden exit, expressing that they "wished him well".
