Hour-by-hour weather for Bonfire Night in Newcastle as Met Office confirms misty night
by Daniel Hall · ChronicleLiveThe North East is set for an atmospheric Bonfire Night with mist rolling into the region this afternoon. Across the UK, there has been persistent low-lying cloud in recent days, forming into fog and mist which won't go away.
And that's not set to change today, even as fireworks light up the sky in Newcastle this evening to in celebration of Guy Fawkes night.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, the Met Office suggested that the country could be in a phase of anticyclonic gloom - which can occur when high pressure traps a later of moisture near to the earth's surface, bringing a prolonged period of dull and cloudy weather, with mist and fog also possible.
During Tuesday daytime, the Met Office has told the North East to expect: "Another dull, grey and overcast day with a little light rain and drizzle at times, these mainly confined to hills. Staying largely dry elsewhere. Perhaps some brighter spells developing towards the east, especially to the lee of hills."
And for tonight, the Met Office adds: "Rather cloudy with some patchy light rain and drizzle on the Pennines overnight. Elsewhere, largely dry with some clear spells developing, especially in the east. Staying mild, with light winds. Minimum temperature 5 °C."
