Music producer Quincy Jones who worked with Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra dies at 91
by Zara Woodcock · ChronicleLiveQuincy Jones, the legendary record producer and songwriter, has passed away at age 91. He was celebrated for his collaborations with music legends such as Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles.
His publicist, Arnold Robinson, delivered the sad news, confirming that Quincy died on Sunday evening at his Bel-Air home, surrounded by family.
In a heartfelt statement, his family conveyed their loss: "Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones' passing. And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him."
Jones, a trailblazer as one of the first Black executives in Hollywood, left an indelible mark on the music industry. He produced the groundbreaking 'Thriller' album for Michael Jackson, arranged music for icons like Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, and scored films and TV shows including 'Roots' and 'In the Heat of the Night'.
Apart from his musical achievements, Quincy Jones played a pivotal role in organising President Bill Clinton's first inaugural celebration. He was also instrumental in the creation of the global charity anthem 'We Are The World' in 1985, commanding respect from peers such as singer Lionel Richie, who referred to him as the "master orchestrator", reports the Mirror.
His illustrious career, which started when vinyl records were still played at 78 rpm, saw his most significant achievements likely come from his collaborations with Jackson. The albums "Off the Wall," "Thriller" and "Bad" showcased a near-universal style and appeal.
Jones' versatility and creativity played a crucial role in fuelling Jackson's transition from child star to the "King of Pop."
On such iconic tracks as "Billie Jean" and "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," Jones and Jackson created a global soundscape that blended disco, funk, rock, pop, R&B, jazz and African chants. *This is a breaking showbiz news story.
