Some of the UK's spookiest Halloween houses as Brits celebrate Celtic festival
by James Harrison, Chanelle Georgina · ChronicleLiveThursday, October 31, marks Halloween – a Celtic tradition that celebrates the transition into winter. Once known as the festival of Samhain, it was believed that the souls of the deceased would visit their relatives during this time.
To protect themselves from evil spirits, people would don costumes to frighten them away; while the original reasoning behind wearing costumes may be lost today, many still partake in this Halloween tradition.
Tonight, expect to see ghouls, monsters and fictional characters roaming the streets, particularly as children go trick-or-treating for sweets and chocolate.
In anticipation of these costumed visitors, numerous households across the UK have adorned their homes with Halloween decorations. While some streets are more subdued, others have gone all out in the ongoing competition for the best Halloween decor of the year, reports the Express.
