BBC Strictly Come Dancing say the same thing as they watch 'show first'

Strictly Come Dancing viewers had the same complaint as they tuned in to watch the latest instalment of the BBC One dance contest on Saturday night

Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez left fans with two identical complaints after their performance, as they joyfully and emotionally delivered a first for Strictly Come Dancing.

Saturday night (October 5) marked a significant week in the BBC One dance contest, as the third week of this year's competition transformed into the annual Movie Week special.

The show kicked off with a group number from the professional dancers who morphed into minions from the Despicable Me franchise, while Kai Widdrington, without a celebrity dance partner this year, appeared as the film's villain, Gru, complete with a bald head and a prosthetic nose.

Following last weekend's surprising first dance-off and elimination of the series, it was time for the remaining couples to grace the ballroom floor.

Among them were Morning Live's Dr Punam and Spanish dancer Gorka, who performed the first couple's choice of the show's 20th anniversary series to Bole Chudiyan from the Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. They came joint second scoring 33, leading Ballas to exclaim "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" in line with her Mary Poppins costume, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Before the performance, Dr Punam expressed her desire to perform a Bollywood dance to "bring my culture and my heritage to the forefront". During rehearsals, she stated: "I never saw Indian girls dancing on mainstream television so to be doing now an Indian dance on a platform like Strictly is huge."

She recounted the loss of her grandfather who was in India during the Covid pandemic and shared, "he'll be watching and he'll be really proud, as will my mum". She confided: "We didn't grow up with much, we didn't have a lot, but we got there."

Reflecting on the emotional significance of performing a Bollywood dance, Dr Punam, holding back tears, told host Claudia Winkleman: "It meant everything."

Elaborating on its impact, she said: "I feel like I just went to four-year-old me that would have loved to see something like this when I was growing up, and I guess you just can't be what you can't see."

Following Dr Punam's Bollywood performance on Strictly, viewers took to social media with overwhelming positivity, albeit with two particular gripes the routine was too short for their taste, wanting more, and they felt the judges had underscored the performance.

Fan @littlemissgwendolen posted: "Far too short, I could've watched them dance for hours. Bollywood week should definitely be made a new category. Just imagine the dances, the music, the outfits! It would be amazing."

Meanwhile, @fromkelltobell expressed: "Two complaints...... undermarked and not long enough. Absolutely loved this! ! I don't think I even watched Gorka."

@elr320 took to social media to praise the performance, saying: "Incredible, I think they have been undermarked every week. Dance of the night."

Meanwhile, @yorkshirerosecandles commented: "One complaint, it was too short. It was amazing and I didn't want it to end."

Further admiration came from @atvfriend who posted: "Punam and Gorka What a treat watching a new genre of dance, Punam danced her out, and she enjoyed her best dance, and I loved, more please #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly."
