A woman has been left horrified after discovering a strange metal object in a takeaway she ordered from Pizza Hut.

Amber, 24, from the UK, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share her experience after finding a mystery item in the food she had ordered from the popular franchise.

In a post shared on Sunday - which now has more than two million views - the social media user snapped a picture of her cheese pizza; which revealed a metal rod baked into the crust.

Tagging the American food chain, Amber wrote: 'Hey umm @pizzahutuk can you explain this?'

The contraption, which is hooked at both ends, covers nearly the entire edge of once slice of pizza.

A close-up of the meal shows the metal hook cooked into the pizza beneath a layer of cheese.

Another zoom into the problem pizza pictures a sharp looking edge of an object poking through the edge of the crust.

Dozens of social media users took to the comments to offer their theories on what it could be - with the general consensus being that it came from an attachment from inside the oven.

One poster believed the object was: 'Part of the belt from the oven,' adding that they had 'worked for them years ago'.

Another suggested: 'That's part of the rotating oven belt. How that ended up inside the pizza is mind-blowing to me. Would definitely complain and take it to head office if needs be.'

A third agreed: 'I worked at Pizza Hut for years… and you are absolutely right… maybe they took the belt off for cleaning and didn’t put the retention bands back on.'

Concerned by the find, another commenter wondered: 'Yeah but how does this happen... They definitely didn't do their job right.'

According to the social media user, she did attempt to seek assistance after finding the undesirable object baked into her dinner.

Replying to one user who commented 'That's insane', Amber wrote: 'Isn’t it? They didn’t even offer a refund just a new pizza. how is that okay in the slightest.'

In another response, Amber implied she had been in contact with the restaurant. She wrote: 'According to the manager they apparently do not have metal in their kitchen?! Hard to believe

A concerned commenter responded, writing: 'Keep the metal and contact your local food safety organisation. Bottom line, the restaurant will need to undergo inspection, happened to me with a rusty screw and I got a full refund and a voucher. Considering it's a chain, you could be entitled to compensation as well.'

Another wondered: 'How was this not found in the pizza before they gave it to you?'

A spokesperson from Pizza Hut said: 'We are aware of this incident, and we are looking into it as a matter of urgency.

'The health and safety of our customers is our utmost priority, and we want to reassure all our customers that a thorough investigation is taking place.

'We can confirm this is an isolated incident and we are in touch with the customer and the franchise operator in question.’
