Ana Matronic has revealed why she has decided not to join her Scissor Sisters bandmates on their 20th anniversary reunion tour.

The group have confirmed they're reuniting for a string of shows in 2025 to celebrate two decades since the release of their debut album.

The beloved Noughties band, best known for their hit track I Don't Feel Like Dancing, will perform 10 concerts at venues across the UK, including Glasgow, Cardiff, London and Manchester.

But Ana, 50, has confirmed she will not be joining her bandmates Jake Shears, Babydaddy and Del Marquis.

In a statement, Ana explained her 'nerd self' is driving her career at the moment and she is prioritising finishing a history podcast which has developed into long-term research and writing projects'.

She said: 'People familiar with my story and career arc will know that in the heart of this Showgirl lies a giant nerd.

'To those who have heard my between-song rants onstage about subjects from politics to pop culture, read my rants in print about robots, listened to my rants on the radio about music and history, it will come as no surprise to know that in the past decade my nerd self has taken the wheel and is driving my career at present.

'I am currently finishing production on the first season of my history podcast Good Time Sallies, which has widened into several long-term research & writing projects.

'With contracts signed and schedules solidified on these commitments, I am afraid the timing of a Scissor reunion does not allow me to join them on this tour. I wish the band and our fans all the best—I will be there in spirit to kiki with you!'

Jake Shears said of Ana's absence: 'I think it just didn’t line up. It’s not something that she wanted to do at this moment in time. And I didn’t want that to keep us from coming out and playing these songs.'

Del Marquis added: 'We’ve spent a lot of time collectively thinking about what we can add to our show that isn’t a ‘replacement’ for Ana in any way. She’s part of the spirit of this band and we want to honour that.'

2024 marks the 20-year anniversary of the band's debut album 'Scissor Sisters', one of the UK's 40 best-sellers of all time.

The band plan to perform every single track from the album on the tour, as well as highlights from their three subsequent albums, 2006's Ta-Dah, 2010's Night Work and 2012's Magic Hour.

Jake Shears said: 'It's the 20th anniversary of our debut album, so it really feels like the right time to revisit all the intense excitement of that moment.

'I think the impetus for this reunion was really a YouTube screening of Scissor Sisters: Live at The O2 that happened during lockdown.

'I don't think I'd seen that show since it was filmed in 2007, but we were all kind of surprised by how great it was. And chatting with fans during the screening really brought back what a special moment it was for all of us.'

The album Scissor Sisters was the best-selling album in the UK of 2004, selling over three million copies globally (a staggering two million of these were UK sales).

Ranked as the 20th biggest-selling album of the 21st century in the UK and the 35th biggest-selling album of all time, the album went nine times Platinum in the UK, and won three BRIT Awards in 2005, including Best International Album, Best International Group and Best International Breakthrough Act, making Scissor Sisters the first act ever to win all three international categories.

Tickets will go on pre-sale on Wednesday 6th November at 9am, with the general sale beginning on Friday 8th November at 9am.

The iconic band formed in 2000 and went on to win three Brit awards and be nominated for a Grammy before they announced an indefinite hiatus in 2012.

Frontman Jake previously spoke about creating new music, telling NME: ’I really want to make another Scissors record – I don’t know when that’s gonna be.’

He added: ‘I think everybody would need to want to do it. I don’t wanna twist anybody’s arm – that would just be no fun.’

He did however rule out the idea of reuniting for an anniversary tour, saying in 2021: ‘I don’t think I would be into that. I would want to make new music.’

The American band last released music in 2012 with their fourth and final studio album Magic Hour.

In 2019, Jake spoke about the band going on hiatus, saying their hit Let’s Have a Kiki, which topped Billboard’s US Dance Club Songs list, ‘broke up the band’.

He told Gay Cities: ‘I truly had no idea what to follow that up with. So I thought, we’ve been recording and touring for 10 years, and I felt like it was time.

‘This wasn’t what anybody in the band had planned to do. So I thought it would be fun to end on a high note.

‘But you know what? That’s not to say we’re never going to do anything again. The Scissor Sisters will be back.’
