The Hollywood Reporter unveils Creator A-list
by Jo Tweedy For Mailonline · Mail OnlineA list apparently comprising the hottest names currently working in media has sparked bemusement amongst many who've cast an eye over it.
The Hollywood Reporter says its first ever 'Creator A-List' includes 'staggeringly talented TikTokers' and 'Instagram stars we can’t look away from' - but those who've spied the selection of 50 social media movers and shakers say they've 'never heard of most of them'.
Described by the magazine as 'New Fame', the list features writers, comedians, make-up artists, producers, interviewers and fashionistas with one thing in common - they're all also described as 'influencers', who ply their trade on TikTok, Instagram and other social media landscapes, often with millions of followers hanging on to their every word.
Despite the hype - and the glamorous West Hollywood party last night to officially announce the list, there was a more muted response elsewhere.
The reaction on Twitter was almost universally one of questioning, with most people saying they didn't recognise anybody, or very few people on the Creator A-List.
One wrote: 'I literally recognize one out of like 21 people…'
Another added: 'I must be so old. who are these people.'
One exasperated X user wrote: 'Boy, you kidding! WHO are these people?'
Others were a little more enlightened. One wrote: 'I know The Good Mythical Morning guys, and Kai Cenat never heard of anyone else here.'
So, who's made The Hollywood Reporter's Creator A-List top 50? Here's a few of the names the US magazine have included...
MODEL AND INFLUENCER NARA SMITH
German model and influencer Nara Smith has, whether she approves or not, become a poster-girl for the 'tradwife' lifestyle, which sees women who don clothes in the 1950s style while embracing traditional gender roles and preparing homemade meals.
The 22-year-old, who's married to model Lucky Smith, was born in South Africa and raised in Germany, and describes herself as 'a working mom' - her fans love her from scratch recipes, which see her baking her own bread and even making her own cheese.
SINGER AND ACTOR CHASE 'HUDDY@ HUDSON
Beloved of Gen-Z, Chase 'Huddy' Hudson, raised in California, has a dizzying fanbase online, with some 47 million people following the singer on accounts across various online platforms.
The 22-year-old actor and singer has effectively grown up online, shooting to fame more than four years ago with his Lil Huddy presence and teen romance with Charli D'Amelio.
He co-founded the TikTok collective the Hype House and is a regular chuch-goer.
QUEEN OF THE CHICKEN SHOP DATE: AMELIA DIMOLDENBERG
You may expect to see superstars like Cher, Billie Eilish and Jennifer Lawrence on the cover of glossy magazines like Vogue.
But the trio, alongside other Oscar winners, No.1 artists and musical legends have leaned in to a much less glamorous form of interview of late.
They are among the many stars who have appeared on Chicken Shop Date, an independent YouTube series by influencer Amelia Dimoldenberg who started the channel 13 years ago as a project for a youth club.
The concept is simple, Amelia, 30, who is known for her awkward and deadpan style of humour, takes stars on 'dates' to chicken shops in London.
When she began, aged 17, she took out 'friends of friends', usually grime artists who aren't well-known and wrote about it in a column for youth magazine The Cut.
But she's since ventured out beyond just grime stars with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Lionnesses Lucy Bronze and Beth Mead, Matty Healy and Paul Mescal among her recent guests.
She's now had 500,00,000 views - with A-listers like Drake publicly declaring they want to make an appearance on the show.
