by Paula Murray For The Scottish Daily Mail · Mail OnlineSir Andy Murray has added to his trophy cabinet after scooping a prestigious hospitality award.
The 37-year-old retired tennis ace’s Cromlix hotel, near his brithplace of Dunblane, Perthshire, has been named as the best hotel in Scotland.
His wife Kim, 36, joined staff members for the evening and accepted the coveted gong at the AA Hospitality Awards at Grosvenor House in London on Monday.
The 15-bedroom Victorian country mansion was among the top hotels and restaurants across the UK recognised at the national event.
Cromix boasts five stars and is set among 34 acres of woodland and landscaped gardens. It comes with its own chapel, tennis court and trout loch.
The couple bought the property for £1.8million in 2013 and held their wedding there in 2015.
It was ranked number one by the award judges after inspectors were left impressed by the hotel’s expansive grounds, beautiful bedroom and excellent food.
They said: ‘Owned by Kim and Andy Murray (the tennis star, who was born in nearby Dunblane), this stunning hotel has been appointed to a luxurious standard.
‘The expansive grounds are secluded and ideal for relaxing in; among the places of interest are a kitchen garden, a loch (stocked with trout; rods available) and a tennis court resplendent in Wimbledon colours.
‘Bedrooms have been lovingly restored and include a number of unique suites.
‘The hotel has its own chapel, a number of welcoming lounges and a billiards room.
‘The modern, light dining space features an open kitchen where guests can observe some masterful cooking in action. Service is delivered to an impeccable standard.’
Earlier this year the couple won the Independent Hotel of the Year award for Cromlix at the Scottish Excellence Awards while the hotel was also among the Best 100 Places to Stay in the UK coming in at number eight.
