Inside Gregg Wallace's marriage - and their unusual home set-up

by · Mail Online

Gregg Wallace has walked down the aisle four times - but he believes he has finally found the secret ingredients to a happy marriage, and they are called Nonna and Grandpa.

The MasterChef judge, 59, married his fourth wife Anne-Marie Sterpini, 37, who he lovingly calls Anna, at Hever Castle in Kent in 2016.

In an emotional video posted on Instagram this morning, the presenter insisted that he is 'madly in love' with Anna and would never 'flirt with' or 'hit on' another woman. His heartfelt words come after he denied allegations of 'inappropriate sexual comments'.

Despite Anna being 22 years Gregg's junior, the couple share their £1million mansion in Ashford with their son Sid, five, and Anna's parents, Rina and Massimo (Max).

Rina moved into the beautiful five-bedroom farmhouse when Gregg and Anna purchased it in 2017 - and Max quickly followed.

'We had to wait for grandpa to close his business in Coventry. He had a Chinese takeaway, even though he's from Napoli,' explained Gregg.

The co-host of MasterChef has conceded that the unusual home set-up will raise eyebrows, but he told the Mail that 'it just works'.

Gregg said: 'Anna and her mum take care of all the house stuff. In the morning, they sit with their coffee. "I will do the ironing," one will say. "Who is doing dinner?". By the time they finish their coffee, they've planned the day.'

It seems his in-laws help with just about every household task you can think of.

When Sid was a baby, selfless Rina and Max had him sleeping in their bedroom for half the week, allowing his parents to enjoy uninterrupted nights.

Free childcare is another 'one of the benefits' of having live-in in-laws, according to Gregg.

The TV chef has admitted that his son Sid can be 'hard work'.

After seven years on BBC's Inside The Factory, Gregg said he stepped down last year to look after Sid - his third child - who was diagnosed with autism in 2023.

In a recent interview with The Sun, Gregg explained that, while he often feels 'troubled' by Sid's difficulties in expressing his thoughts and feelings, he and Anna remain optimistic about his future.

Nowadays, the grandparents take Sid out in the afternoons and Grandpa Max also does the garden (a considerable task, given the grounds run to five acres).

'He does all the stuff I can't do,' Gregg said. 'If a handle comes off a window, if there is a leaky pipe, Max fixes it. He puts up shelves.'

Gregg's role in this cosy family commune? Bread-winner, pure and simple. Every day he also makes lunch.

Remembering a deep conversation he had with his father-in-law, Gregg said: 'We did have a discussion about it. I said: "Are you sure you are OK with this?", and he said: "Yes, you are the head of the household now".'

'When they moved in, they wanted to contribute. I said "No way. You don't need to spend your money any more. Enjoy your retirement. Come and look after us." '

Many men might baulk at the idea of having the in-laws move in but for Gregg, it was a requirement of family life. He even suggests Sid's very existence depended on the in-laws being around.

Gregg told the Mail that he was only willing to have a child with Anna if there were terms and conditions in place.

'I said: "Yes, I'm willing to have a baby with you, but a couple of provisos... I'm not willing to swap my fun, sexy girlfriend for an exhausted mum. We make enough money, I'd like you to get help in the house." Anna said "What about my mum?". That was perfect.

'The second condition was that I would get two weeks away with Anna every year, just us.'

Anna simply said the arrangement suits them both, because she has all she ever wanted in life — a loving husband and a family.

'Gregg didn't want me to be all alone in a big house if he was away filming,' she added. 'And that doesn't happen with Mum and Dad here. And it does work. We never have an argument.'

Gregg said he gave Anna (pictured) conditions before they had a child together, including having someone to help in the house and being able to get away together every year

And it does seem to be all smiles and giggles in the Wallace household.

In an interview with The Sun, Gregg explained that he 'loves' having a 'giggle' with his mother-in-law - who is far closer to his age than his wife, who is 22 years his junior.

He revealed: 'I love Rina - we have such a giggle. We are roughly the same age. Me and Rina remember the same TV shows and sing the same 1970s pop songs.

'Anna doesn't know what we are talking about. We were singing Boney M at breakfast this morning and Anna has no idea.'

When asked by Loose Women's Judi Love about his experience as an older father, Gregg quipped: 'You haven't met Mrs Wallace but I was really pleased she had a baby because it's someone at home more her own age to talk to.'

Gregg's daughter Libby, 24, lives with them too and adores Rina ('she calls her The Golden One').

The professional chef would also like his son Tom, 26, who lives in Bristol with his girlfriend, to join them too.
