Janet Street-Porter shares health update after hip operation

Janet Street-Porter updated fans on her health after stepping back from Loose Women.

The presenter, 77 announced she would be leaving the panel show last week temporarily to undergo a hip operation. 

The ITV show regular explained on last week's episode that she was due to have the surgery on Friday and revealed she was feeling nervous about it.

But the journalist took to Instagram on Saturday to share a beaming selfie with her 45,000 followers. 

Janet posted the snap from her hospital bed and seemed in good spirits.

Wearing a hospital gown and a breathing tube, Janet smiled to the camera with her trademark maroon hair and black glasses and seemed to be recovering well. 

She captioned the post: 'Three hours after hip replacement-masses of strong pain relief resulted in huge smile of relief! Then the drugs wore off...but I'm walking with a trolley HOORAY XX'. 

And a host of famous friends rushed to the comments to send their good wishes.

Katie Piper wrote: 'So happy to see you smiling and walking already'.

While Martin Kemp wished Janet a speedy recovering, commenting: 'Get well soon Janet!!! Mx'.

Janet's Loose Women co-star Ruth Langsford said she was excited to see the journalist back on the show wit her.

She wrote: 'It’s done Janet! Good to see you smiling (even if it is the drugs!!) Missing you….get back to soon!

Janet told viewers and her fellow panellists Christine, Coleen Nolan and Katie Piper that she was very worried about going under the knife.

She said: 'I can't think about anything else. As I'm sitting here I'm shaking and my hands are freezing cold. I keep dreaming about it.

'I'm just going to go into hospital on Friday, have the operation on Friday afternoon, stay in hospital for a few days and then really, really work at rehab and physio so that I can come back as soon as possible.'

Her co-star Coleen admitted it was 'really sad' that Janet was going through a tough time with her health.

She said: 'You always put on this tough persona and nothing bothers you. And then at one point today you said, 'I'm really scared,' and I could have cried my eyes out.'

Janet has been a Loose Women panellist since 2011 and is known for her straight-talking approach to discussion topics. 

The host, who has been a consistent presence since she joined the panel first started out at London Weekend Television in 1975.

Over the years Janet has debated various topics and revealed secrets about her life.

She started off as a presenter for a series of programmes for children and teenagers before becoming a familiar face on TV screens. 

Janet has also tried her hand at other TV work including a stint on several reality shows.

The journalist competed in the 2004 series of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here where she finished fourth before donning an apron and battling it out on Celebrity MasterChef where she finished third. 

The TV personality has also appeared on QI, Question Time and Have I Got News For You.

Away from television work Janet got her first taste of journalism at Petticoat Magazine before becoming the deputy fashion editor at the Daily Mail in 1969 and fashion editor of the Evening Standard tin 1971.

The journalist has also worked at LBC radio and the Independent on Sunday. 

Most recently the star shared racy details about her affairs on Tuesday's instalment of Loose Women.

The broadcaster and journalist shared her risqué experiences in an unfiltered interview which was inspired by a conversation about Gillian Anderson's new fantasy book Want.

Janet had the audience and panelists' jaws on the floor as she detailed her kinky hotel meet with someone she had an affair with.

While she thought it was a causal drink and dinner date, Janet revealed her date suddenly pulled out handcuffs and a whip from a leather bag.

Janet said: 'There was another guy I was having an affair with and one day he thought I was going to go along with his fantasies.

'And just as the butler in our hotel gave us our drinks, he started taking off hand cuffs and a whip.

'I've never been more embarrassed in my life. I got quite drunk and we managed to enjoy ourselves without resulting into some sort of hardware'.

'In the morning while he was sleeping it off I handcuffed his hands to the bed', she quipped.

Janet married Tim Street-Porter in 1967 before splitting in 1975, after which she wed Tony Elliott from 1975 to 1977.

Her next marriage lasted a further two years when she walked the aisle with Frank Cvitanovich in 1979 til 1981 and later David Sorkin from 1997 to 1999.

Janet also disclosed the surprise meet she had with a Hollywood actor she once dated - leaving the Loose Women panel in stitches.

She said: 'A Hollywood actor invited me over me house and got out a length of rope. So I said 'well you can put that away'.
