Romeo Beckham's ditches football for a foray into fashion

by · Mail Online

He's spent a week in the French capital taking in the hustle and bustle of Paris Fashion Week ahead of Victoria's highly-anticipated show on Friday.

And his attendance at the event seemed fitting after it was announced Romeo Beckham has officially ditched football to pursue a career in fashion.

The second eldest of the Beckham clan, Romeo, 22, always appeared to be torn between the two growing up with a football famous father and fashionista mother.

However it was revealed earlier this month that Romeo has reportedly left his Premier League football club despite being offered a new contract by Brentford FC in June.

And after Romeo's decision to pass on the opportunity we take a look back at all the moments that showed he was destined to follow in Victoria's footsteps.

Burberry star

Romeo's first big break came when he was just 10-years-old as he took his first modelling assignment for Burberry.

Following in his mother's footsteps from a young age, Romeo was undaunted on set as was described 'amazing, incredible and a little joy' who kept everyone entertained as he was 'bouncing around'.

His passion for fashion was cemented from an early age as he accompanied Victoria on shoots and mingling amongst a host of top designers.

A favourite of the brand, Romeo returned to film a Christmas advert with the designer two years later as he wore the classic Burberry trench along with a smart Burberry scarf and umbrella.

It was later reported his work contributed to some stellar sales techniques and purchases of the classic £1,500 coat rose by a substantial 10 per cent in findings from January 2015.

GQ's best dressed British men

At just 12-year-old Romeo made his debut in the GQ's best-dressed men list - 21 places above his father.

In 2015 the child star was ranked at 25th in the prestigious best-dressed list, outshining his famous father who only managed 46th.

Romeo featured the year Eddie Redmayne beat Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch to the top spot.

Jamie Dornan followed in third, while Newsnight presenter Evan Davies was sadly named worst dressed.

L'Uomo Vogue cover

Romeo added another string to his bow when he released his debut cover shoot with celebrated fashion bible L’Uomo Vogue back in 2021.

Collaborating with fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the collection of shots captured Romeo modelling a mixture of designer and vintage clothing.

Sporting platinum blonde locks, Romeo modelled a bespoke look created exclusively by stylist Louis Ghewy.

In keeping with the shoot's notably casual theme, the teenager wears an oversized green cardigan and grey joggers, teamed with distinctive black leather boots from Italian fashion house Prada.

GQ Korea

Romeo unveiled his modelling campaign for GQ Korea back in 2022 when he featured on the cover of the magazine.

The star, who was then 19, looked a natural on the black-and-white cover as he sported a denim waistcoat.

For a second look, which his Inter Miami CF president father gushed he 'loved so much', Romeo threw a candid pose dressed in a black lace shirt tucked into complementary trousers.

The stylist opted for thick white socks to be pulled up over Romeo's trouser leg, as he slipped into a pair of cream laced shoes.

David was every inch the proud father as he shared both of the features, penning: 'WOW Amazing cover mate, Love you @romeobeckham!!' and 'AMAZING @romeobeckham love this look so much' respectively.

British Fashion Awards

Romeo is also a regular in attendance at the British Fashion Awards after making his first joint red carpet appearance with his former girlfriend Mia Regan at the event back in 2021.

Returning to the event last year the couple, who broke up in February, cut stylish figures as they both matched in all black ensembles for the prestigious evening of fashion at the Royal Albert Hall.

Romeo showed off his uncanny resemblance to father David, as he kept it cool in a black blazer with shiny lapels, a simple black top and oversized black trousers.

The event serves as the main fundraiser for the BFC Foundation. which supports the future growth and success of the British fashion industry through its focus on education, grant-giving, and business mentoring.

The BFC also went back to having some gender-based design awards for the first time since the pandemic, splitting the best British designers into menswear and womenswear categories.

Mixing with the best in the business, leading industry figures were recognised such as Valentino Garavani with the Outstanding Achievement award, make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury with the Special Recognition Award, and the late Joe Casely-Hayford with a posthumous special recognition award.

Puma modelling

Romeo displayed his modelling prowess as he posed for PUMA's launch of the 180 sneaker collection back in August 2023.

The star rocked a double denim co-ord for the shoot consisting of a faded denim jacket and a pair of baggy faded denim jeans.

Donning a plain white vest underneath Romeo showcased the brand's iconic white sneaker which featured panels of brown corduroy for a luxe feel.

In another professional snap, Romeo can be seen donning just the white vest and jeans as he struck up a pose on the floor to show off his tatted arm and sneakers.

The eye catching footwear are a collaboration with Brooklyn-based art collective MSCHF – pronounced mischief – following the release of their cartoonish Big Red Boots last year.

The Brentford footballer showed off his tattooed physique in a white tank top and grey shorts as he flicked his leg behind him modelling the eccentric £354 boots.

Yet Romeo wasn't the first Beckham to wear them after his mum Victoria ditched her signature heels to pose in the same yellow cartoonish oversized boots last year,  which have also been modelled by Paris Hilton.
