Crash and vehicle fire on M25 causing half-hour delays

by · Metro

There’s trouble for drivers around London this afternoon as a crash, a broken down vehicle and a fire are causing delays.

The M25 is seeing issues in several areas, including a broken down vehicle on the anticlockwise carriageway between junctions 28 and 27.

There is also a vehicle on fire on the exit slip road for junction 22 clockwise, which has completely blocked the slip road.

National Highways also says a collision between junction 11-10 anticlockwise has now cleared, but there is still congestion in the area.

M25 closure this weekend while police escort ‘abnormal load’

Katie Boyden

Drivers planning to use the M25 this weekend are being warned to avoid an abnormal load.

Police will be escorting several large loads of container pods to a community hospital in Surrey, and their extended widths means the roads en route will be blocked.

The load will start from Northumberland and arrive in Surrey via the A1, M1 and M25.

The loads will travel as far as Junction 12 before heading south on the M3, exiting at J4, it will then proceed along the A331, A31 and A3, before coming off at the Dennis Roundabout Junction and following the A25 to the A320, where it will travel to their final destinationof Woking Community Hospital.

While the load gets to its destination, the Woking one-way system will be temporarily held in order to manoeuvre the loads safely through the Surrey town. The second convoy will then repeat this journey on Sunday morning.

Surrey Police said: ‘Sadly, we can’t give exact timings at this stage, but expect it will come off the M3 at Junction 4 no earlier than 9am.

‘We anticipate some temporary localised disruption as a result, and although it will be kept to a minimum, motorists are advised to plan their journey with this in mind.’

A21 finally reopens after fatal crash

Katie Boyden

The A21 has now reopened after it was closed in both directions by police following a fatal collision.

The crash on Thursday evening involved a motorbike and a van, and the motorcyclist, a 38-year-old man, was killed.

The driver of the Ford Transit, a 32-year-old man from St Leonards, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

The road was closed near Robertsbridge for several hours while police investigated the scene of the crash, but it has now fully reopened.

There are residual delays in the area but these are now clearing, National Highways says.

Signal fault causes delays at East Croydon

Katie Boyden

A signalling fault between East Croydon and Oxted means trains have to run more slowly on the line towards Uckfield and East Grinstead.

This affecting Southern services between London Victoria and East Grinstead, and between London Bridge and Uckfield, as well as Thameslink services between Bedford or London Bridge to East Grinstead.

The disruption is expected to last until around 10am and could see trains delayed by up to 25 minutes.

It’s mostly southbound services being affected at the moment, but this will inevitably have a knock-on effect on northbound trains.

A National Rail spokesperson said: ‘Some late-running trains may not stop at all of the usual stations, or may not complete their full journeys. Because of these alterations, your journey time could be extended further.

‘If there is a long wait until the next train, you may wish to consider using another route, if there is one available in your area.

‘If there is no alternative, please speak to staff for advice, or use the station Help Point, and they will do what we can to assist you.’
