Severe delays cause rush-hour headache across London
by Josh Milton · MetroDelays on the Tube are already disrupting this morning’s rush-hour commute across London.
Transport for London (TfL) warned about severe hold-ups on the Northern, Jubilee and Overground lines amid faulty trains and signalling issues. The Hammersmith and City line has also been hobbled by a points failure.
Flooding, meanwhile, is continuing to give motorists headaches along a patch of the A421, which is closed both ways.
While a fire near Stevenage which forced Great Northern to issue a ‘do not travel’ warning yesterday has been put out – tickets for journeys then can be used today, the train line said.

What’s going on with the Underground at the moment?
Earlier issues on the Victoria line have cleared up, but there are still severe delays on the Jubilee and Northern lines.
- Jubilee: Severe delays due to an earlier faulty train at West Ham. Tickets are being accepted on London Overground, C2C, DLR, Elizabeth line, Southeastern and London Buses.
- Northern: Severe delays between Kennington and Camden Town, northbound via Bank, due to a signalling problem at London Bridge. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses. Good service on the rest of the line.
There is good service on the rest of the Tube network.

Road collisions on two major motorways
The M1 and M20 have seen road traffic collisions this morning, causing severe and minor delays to drivers respectively.
Traffic jams should ease up by 9.45am northbound between junctions 20, 21 and 22 of the M1. Delays of 40 minutes are expected.
A collision westbound between junctions 3 and 1 on the M20, meanwhile, will likely lead to delays until 9.45am as well.

Victoria line is the third Tube line suffering delays
The Victoria line is seeing minor delays straight through the entire line due to a faulty train at Pimlico, TfL says.

You might soon be able to catch a flying taxi to the airport
If a train is delayed by even a minute, or a coach cancels at the last possible second, it can all but doom your holiday.
But a private firm is hoping to create the first fleet of flying taxis which the company says could get you from Battersea, southwest London, to Heathrow Airport 15 miles away in only 10 minutes.
‘We have an official date out in the market for the end of 2026. That’s our official date, and it’s challenging… but at the minute, that’s the target date, and we can get there,’ Stuart Simpson, of Vertical Aerospace, told City AM.

Yet another London train line is delayed
With delays riddling the Jubilee, Northern and Hammersmith and City lines, now the Overground is getting in on the delay action.
‘Severe delays between Barking Riverside and Gospel Oak while we fix a signal failure at Barking,’ TfL has said in its latest update.

Three A roads closed today
The A421, A64 and A1M are all closed today as National Highways carries out roadworks operations.
The A421 is closed both ways by Bedfordshire as engineers clean up after the area was swamped by floods.
In North Yorkshire, a carriageway in A64 is closed eastbound. Roadworks were meant to end by 6am but are overrunning – highway officials expect drivers to face delays.
While A1M between junctions 69 and 65 is closed as overnight roadworks are also overrunning.

Stevenage tickets bought yesterday amid fire are valid today
Yesterday, a fire near a Stevenage railway track caused major delays, with trains not running through the station at all.
Amid the fire, which has since been extinguished, Great Northern issued a ‘do not travel’ warning.
The operator said those unable to use their train tickets yesterday can do so today.

Northern line severely delayed
A signalling problem at London Bridge is behind the severe delays gripping a large stretch of the Northern line this morning.
Delays are between Kennington and Camden Town, TfL says.

Broken down train at key Jubilee line station causing travel chaos
There’s currently no service at all between North Greenwich and Stratford as a train has broken down at West Ham. Minor delays are being felt across the line.
‘London Underground tickets will be accepted on London Overground, C2C, DLR, Elizabeth Line, Southeastern and local bus services via any reasonable route,’ TfL says.
