Busy Derbyshire route to close for six weeks as delays expected for drivers
by Oscar Fisher · Derbyshire LiveA busy residential road that runs through a Derbyshire village is set to close for six weeks to improve river health in the area. Waterworks led by Severn Trent will force the closure of Cromford Road in Langley Mill to allow upgrades to be carried out safely, with work set to begin next Monday (November 11).
The closure is set to cause disruption among locals, with the road set to be closed between Argyle Street and Minkley Drive. This means motorists living to the south of the closure wanting to travel north, towards the A610, will need to take a diversion either through the village centre or towards the A610 roundabout towards Eastwood, with both routes more than doubling the distance needed to travel without the closure.
The same goes to motorists living to the north of the Cromford Road closure who need to travel south. A spokesperson for Severn Trent Water has apologised in advance for the delays, adding that a signposted diversion route will be in place throughout the works.
Christina Massey, community communications officer at Severn Trent Water, said: “As part of our programme to improve river health in the area, we will be making some upgrades to our network in Langley Mill. Due to the location of the works and to help keep our teams and other road users safe, we will need to put a road closure in place.
“We appreciate how disruptive road closures can be and we only over use them when its necessary. We would like to apologies in advance for any inconvenience while we complete these important works, and we’ll be working hard to get everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”
The road closure is set to have a significant effect on Trentbarton's 34 bus service from Ilkeston to Hucknall. While no diversion has been put in place by the transport provider, it is expected to have a major impact on the service.
