A leading supermarket chain is gearing up for the festive period by offering dozens of new jobs in the West Midlands. Aldi is looking to hire 40 new staff members across the region in the run-up to Christmas.

The German retailer said it had a range of permanent store positions available. They range from staff replenishing shelves, helping customers, cleaning shops and managerial roles.

It said roles on offer in the West Midlands included store assistants, managerial positions, and cleaners. A quick search of the Aldi recruitment site showed there were some 24 store assistant jobs, 26 store manager positions and three cleaner roles within 20 miles of Birmingham.

Store assistant roles were on offer in places like Erdington, Bearwood, Stirchley, Brownhills, Wednesbury, Lichfield, Bromsgrove and Cannock. Cleaner roles in Stirchley, Solihull and Atherstone. And manager positions in north, south, west and central Birmingham, Tamworth, which includes covering Sutton Coldfield, Dudley, Wolverhampton, South Staffordshire and West Bromwich.

If the search was widened to any role – there are some 182 jobs within that short distance of the Second City, with a number at Aldi’s national office in Atherstone. The Christmas drive for helpers in-store offers roles which are paid above the national living wage rate of £11.44 for those 21 and over. The chain described its wages as ‘the best in the industry’.

A spokeswoman said: “Aldi is looking to hire 40 store colleagues in the West Midlands in the lead-up to Christmas, as the supermarket gears up for the festive season. With a wide range of permanent store positions available, Aldi is seeking team members to help replenish stock, assist customers, and maintain its high standards of service during the festive period and beyond.

“Roles on offer in the West Midlands include store assistants, managerial positions, and cleaners. Starting pay for store assistants at Aldi remains the best in the industry at £12.40 per hour nationally, and £13.65 per hour inside the M25. Aldi continues to be the only UK supermarket to offer paid breaks, which is worth more than £900-a-year for the average store colleague.”

The firm said its recruitment drive was part of plans to open another 17 shops before the end of the year. And its longer-term plans are to have 1,500 shops across the UK ‘to meet customer demand’. Job roles can be searched for here.
