Flights from BHX to Berlin, Seville and Edinburgh cost little more than a supersized bratwurst and a large tankard of beer at Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market

It's only a few weeks until Birmingham city centre is once again filled with little wooden huts serving up tankards of beer, great big bratwursts, steaming mulled wine and festive cheer - whether Brummies are ready for it or not.

Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market returns to the city on Friday, November 1. The market attracts thousands of people from outside of Brum to the city centre every year and is often regarded as one of the best of its kind in the UK. In fact, one recent study named it as the top Christmas market to visit in the UK this year.

But if you're curious how festive fairs in other parts of the world compare, there are flights running direct from Birmingham Airport to cities with some of the best Christmas markets in the world - and a few of them cost little more than a half-metre-long bratwurst and a double pint on New Street.

Seville

There are a few different Christmas markets to browse in Seville but the Feria del Belén is one of the Spanish city's earliest of the year, typically starting in early November. It's nestled next to the stunning Cathedral of Seville and is a great place to pick up a unique gift. The market's primary focus is nativity scene figurines, but you can also find other quirky items and trinkets.

Head to the Mercado Navideño de la Alameda for festive-inspired street food, or visit the Feria de la Artesanía Creativa to discover a treasure trove of holiday souvenirs, from Andalusian-style jewellery to toys and clothing.

Ryanair flights from Birmingham Airport to Seville start from £24.99 in December. Browse flights on the Ryanair website or compare prices on Kayak.

Edinburgh

The Scottish capital is a magical place to visit at Christmastime and EasyJet runs hour-long flights from Birmingham Airport to Edinburgh starting from just £23.99 in November.

The free-to-enter East Princes Street Gardens Christmas Market offers stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and last year's event had around 80 stalls offering handmade gifts, bespoke products, food and hot and cold drinks. Visitors could also take a ride on Scotland's largest, 46 metre-tall Ferris wheel.

The festive celebrations stretch all the way from there to the Royal Mile, with everything from ice skating to artisan markets, food vendors and whiskey stands in between. Browse flights to Edinburgh on the EasyJet website or compare prices on Kayak.

Berlin

The home of bratwursts, Germany's Christmas markets are some of the most authentic in the world and Berlin's are among the best of the best.

The capital city is home to more than 80 festive markets, including the postcard-picture Charlottenburg Palace Christmas Markets, boasting a huge array of food stalls and held next to a palace, and the Scandi-style Lucia Christmas Markets, which take place in the square of a 19th-century brewery in Prenzlauer Berg.

The 100 stalls that pop up on Alexanderplatz make up one of the busiest Christmas markets in Berlin, with vendors selling traditional crafts, decorations, jewellery and festive snacks.

Ryanair flights from Birmingham to Berlin start from £21.99 this November. Compare prices on Kayak or book direct through the Ryanair website.
