Everyone on PIP, DLA and Carer's Allowance to wake up to bonus payment

by · Birmingham Live

People who receive certain benefits such as Personal Independence Payments (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Carer's Allowance have been alerted to a special bonus payment coming over the next few weeks. The money will drop into accounts automatically for those eligible and people will not need to apply.

It's called the Christmas Bonus and it's being paid out by the DWP to give a small boost to those on low incomes over the expensive festive period. The £10 payment will enter bank accounts during December.

If people don't recognise the payment or are confused by it, it's likely to be the Christmas Bonus. Other benefits which qualify for the bonus include Carer Support Payment, Child Disability Payment and Incapacity Benefit.

While the money might provide a small boost to those with very little money, the amount has been criticised by campaigners who say it should be increased. The £10 rate has not changed over recent years despite increases to inflation and living costs.

The Government says: "The Christmas Bonus is a one-off tax-free £10 payment made before Christmas, paid to people who get certain benefits in the qualifying week. This is normally the first full week of December.

"You do not need to claim - you should get paid automatically." They added: "You must also get at least one of the following benefits in the ‘qualifying week’ - this is normally the first full week of December."
