Martin Lewis has issued an urgent "must do" task for British Gas, OVO, EDF and EON customers, as well as those with Octopus. The BBC Sounds and ITV star spoke out on Twitter, now X, as he urged them to listen to his latest podcast episode.

Taking to Twitter, now X, Mr Lewis said: "New Pod. GET OFF THE PANTS CAP, a beat the 10% energy Price Cap rise special! Why the Cap's rising while wholesale rates fall. Top fixes, cut standing charges & far more. Step by step help. Do listen."

It comes as Mr Lewis has spent days raising awareness of the £149 price cap hike - which will take Ofgem bills to an eye-watering £1717. Mr Lewis has also been urging people to take an urgent meter reading to ensure they're getting the old rate.

FitGear replied: "This is a must listen. Get all the tips and tricks to beat the rising energy price cap with Martin Lewis. Don't miss out on these expert insights! Support us by following our X!" Ian Farrant replied: "I fixed with British gas 2 weeks ago and they already have a better fix than I got. My current gas tariff is same as their standard variable."

"Why are we still using the wholesale price of gas as a metric to set the Price Cap when many energy companies are boasting they generate 75% of their energy via renewable sources?" another fan on social media asked this week.

"Martin, I contacted Octopus and said I was struggling on a low income. They asked me to complete a budget, which I did and they have cancelled my standing charge for 3 months. Always worth asking if you're struggling. Thumbs up to octopus," another said.

And another posted: "Fixed today with E-on who was my price cap supplier, did it before the news from the Middle East which I can only imagine may make prices rise. #Energy"
