Birmingham German Christmas Market puts up its prices for 2024

The cost of a regular bratwurst and a full pint of beer has risen from £12.50 to an all-time high of £13.50. Each have gone up by 50p since 2023, when prices were the same as the year before.
Other festive favourites affected by price hikes include a half-metre-long bratwurst, up from £8 to £9, and a gluhwein, now £6.50, was £6. Meanwhile, a half-pint of beer has stuck at the same price, still £4.50, as has a boozy hot chocolate, priced at £7.

Visitors on opening day didn't seem to be put off by the slight price rises, however, with some placing their bratwurst orders as soon as the stalls officially opened at 11am on Friday, November 1.
Dan Tromans, from Stourbridge, said: "I went to the German market three times last year. It is expensive, but at least the prices haven't gone up by much."
Dawn and Darren Sissons travelled all the way from Hull for Birmingham's Christmas Market launch, saying they had visited the attraction around 15 times over the years. Darren said: "We've visited the Manchester market, we've been to Glasgow and Leeds too, but this is the best by a mile."
Some of the cheapest food options available at this year's Frankfurt Christmas Market include chocolate marshmallows, priced at £1.50 each, toffee apples for £3.50, pretzels starting from £4, £5 for a burger and £4 for a portion of chips.
