Birmingham German Christmas Market named 'best to visit' in UK

The Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market returns to the city on Friday, November 1

The Birmingham German Christmas Market has been named as the best festive market in the UK to visit this year, according to new research. Christmas Tree World have collated the research using the number of social media posts and search volumes, as well as the average price of nearby hotels and the proximity to train stations.

And this year it has placed the Birmingham German Market in the number one spot - ahead of other festive markets in cities including Edinburgh, Manchester, York and Nottingham.

The Birmingham German Christmas Market, or also known as the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market, will return to the city centre on Friday, November 1. The iconic market will be in place along New Street and in Victoria Square right up until Tuesday, December 24.

Christmas Tree World gave the Birmingham German Market an overall festive score of 7.86 out of 10. The market is actually the longest running out of the 10 shortlisted - running in the city centre for just over seven weeks, or 54 days. The research also found that the average nightly price of a three star hotel was £88 - much cheaper than the £316 in London or £165 in Bath.

While the number of Instagram posts about the Birmingham Market was 21,653, while 1,032 posts were shared on TikTok during the run of last year's market.

A spokesman for Christmas Tree World said: "The 'second city' of England, Birmingham, is number one when it comes to the quality of its Christmas markets, once again securing the top spot in the rankings. Birmingham’s markets are located in the city centre and are very easy for visitors to get to, as they are just a five-minute walk from the city’s main train station.

"On top of this, Birmingham has the cheapest average three-star hotel price, at just £88 per night, and its markets are open for 54 days, the longest in the country."

Second in the top 10 was Edinburgh's Christmas Market scoring 7.50 out of 10. Manchester came third in the research, while York and Nottingham were in fourth and fifth place.
