Strike action by SIPTU members employed in the Citizens Information Service (CIS), which was due to begin on Monday, has been deferred.

Around 300 workers operating nearly 50 offices across the country were to take the action in a dispute over pay.

The strike has been deferred to allow for talks next week.

SIPTU had accused the service and its funder, the Department of Social Protection, of failing to respect a Labour Court recommendation on a pay increase for staff.

The Department of Social Protection has previously said that it recognises and values the important work carried out by the CIS and that it looked forward to all parties engaging constructively in the talks process.
