Entrepreneurs called to join M’sia import, export fair for business opportunities

KUCHING (Oct 7): Entrepreneurs in Sarawak are urged to participate in this year’s Malaysia Import and Export Commodity Fair held in conjunction with the 19th Malaysia International Branding Showcase 2024, aimed at exchanging views and exploring business opportunities.

Jointly organised by ES International Event Management Sdn Bhd, Persatuan Usahawan Wawasan Wanita Malaysia, and Malaysia Promas International Business Society (Promas), the events will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, taking place from Nov 28 to 30.

ES International Event Management managing director Dato Chong Chong Tik, who is also Promas president, said the commodity fair will provide a platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country to seek and explore the export market.

“Entrepreneurs across Sarawak are invited to participate in the commodity fair and branding showcase to explore business opportunities and establish collaborations,” he told a press conference here today.

According to Chong, this year marks the first time the organisers have offered incentives for participants from overseas, adding that these participants will be provided with a three-day, two-night accommodation.

To encourage entrepreneurs from Sarawak to participate in this year’s events, he said the organisers will provide them with a four-day accommodation.

“Not only are the participants to enjoy the RM5,000 worth of incentives but the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry will also grant them the Promas Premium Export Award.

“In order to earn this award, the product must have already been showcased in an international commodity fair, and granted the global market expansion incentives,” he added.

Chong said those participating in a commodity fair hosted in Malaysia can earn a RM5,000 incentive, while those involved in a commodity fair held abroad will be presented with incentives of varied amounts of up to RM35,000.

He explained that the incentive offered for those participating in commodity events in China are offered RM25,000, Japan (RM30,000), and the United States (RM35,0000).

He said local brands and export products, which had already been registered in the country, will stand a chance to be given the Promas Branding Award.

“All these initiatives are meant to see more Malaysian products and brands going global,” he added.

Chong recalled that as many as 400 participants took part in last year’s Malaysia Import and Export Commodity Fair, pointing out that at least 320 of them hailed from China.

This year, he said the organisers would expect up to 500 participants, 300 of whom are from China, as well as others from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and other nations.

“Even though we are receiving good responses from overseas, we still look forward to a stronger participation from local entrepreneurs,” he said.

He added that the participants would comprise of traditional complementary health products, food and beverages, tea products, home appliances, gift products, fashion, textiles, cosmetic, and health supplement products.

In addition, the Malaysia International Traditional and Complementary Health Food Product Expo 2024, the Malaysia International Smart Commodity Fair, and the Malaysia International Garment and Fabrics Expo will also be held in connection with this year’s Malaysia Import and Export Commodity Fair, said Chong.

He reiterated that the forthcoming events will bring together excellent brands and quality products from a variety of nations and areas.

“Through the fair, participants will be able to gain insights into global market trends and consumer needs, so as to pave the way for global collaboration and market expansion.”
