‘I’m a beauty editor and Amazon Prime Day saved me £120 on my basket of beauty products’

The six products beauty editor Laura Mulley buys on repeat, and how much she'll save by adding them to her shopping basket this Amazon Prime Big Deal Day

by · The Mirror

As a beauty editor I'm lucky enough to get sent lots of products to test out and review, but there are some beauty staples that I use and buy over and over again, and with Amazon Prime's Big Deal Days well underway – plus sales on at other retailers – I'll be shopping today to save me as much money as possible.

Today marks day two of Amazon's last big sale event before Black Friday, and there are hundreds of amazing beauty deals on offer from big-name brands including Medik8, ghd and The Ordinary. This makes it an excellent time to stock up on some old (or new) favourites, while saving yourself money while doing so.

Here's what I've already got in my shopping basket, and how much I'll be saving by clicking through to the checkout today...

Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3

Was £49, now £39.20 – SAVE £9.80

This beauty editor-approved retinal is now on sale( Image: Laura Mulley)

All strengths of Medik8 Crystal Retinal are currently reduced on Amazon, making them cheaper than at other retailers including Sephora, LookFantastic and Medik8's own website. The exact discount amount varies between the strengths – ranging from 20%-24% off – with the exact one I currently use (Crystal Retinal 3, a good starting point for skin that's not too super sensitive) down from £49 to £39.20. It makes my skin look clearer, brighter and more plump – and I'll definitely be stocking up.

Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara

Was £12.99, now £5.99 – SAVE £7

This mascara is a favourite with beauty editors( Image: Laura Mulley)

A viral hit for a good reason, I don't know many beauty editors who don't love this Maybelline mascara – it lengthens, lifts, separates and, most importantly for me, doesn't flake or smudge all day long.

It's one of the very best affordable mascaras, IMO – and now even more so, at better than half price. A great little extra to add to your Amazon basket if you're doing a big shop.

COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

Was £23.99, now £10.40 – SAVE £13.59

Combat fine lines and ageing with this hydrating essence( Image: Amazon)

This unusual serum first went viral during lockdown, and has since continued to be a huge hit ever since. I'm actually still yet to try it, having a cupboard full of serums and essences to get through first, but after seeing beauty influencer Jamie Genevieve recently rave about it and the dewy look it gives to skin, I've added it to my basket today now that it's better than half price on Amazon, down from £23.99 to little more than £10.

Pureology Hydrate Sheer Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner Duo Set

Was £52.60, now £30.01 – SAVE £22.59

Currently almost half price( Image: Amazon)

When I saw the Pureology Hydrate range pop up on Amazon's Prime Day Deals page, I added it to my basket immediately; I haven't used it for a while but I was instantly reminded just how good this shampoo and conditioner is, giving me the perfect balance between detangling hydration and a clean, lightweight feel.

The Sheer line is best for fine hair, while the 'regular' Hydrate products are ideal for thick hair. You can buy the shampoos and conditioners individually too, also all currently on sale.

Remington Shine Therapy Hair Straightener

Was £79.99, now £26.53 – SAVE £53.46

With ceramic plates coated in argan oil( Image: Laura Mulley)

OK, so a pair of straighteners isn't a regular buy, but if you're looking for a new pair I've tried these Remington ones out after seeing how popular they were last Prime Day – and for the price, I'm really impressed. They glide smoothly over the hair with no dragging or snagging, and don't need more than a couple of passes over each section to leave it straight, swishy and shiny. They eliminate any frizz, without leaving strands feeling sizzled or too hot. Definitely worth checking out.

The INKEY List Makeup Prep 101

Was £30, now £15 – SAVE £15

Now with 50% off( Image: LookFantastic)

And Amazon isn't the only retailer with bog sales on today; LookFantastic is running its own Big Beauty Takeover, with 25% and more off loads of its bestselling products – including this The Ordinary skincare set. I'll be honest, I haven't decided yet if I'll give it as a Christmas present or keep it for myself, as a way of stocking up on three of my favourite The Ordinary products: a creamy cleanser, a depuffing eye cream and a brightening serum.
