UK's most popular hike is a 'must visit' that features a 'spectacular' waterfall
If you're looking for a stunning weekend getaway this hike offers the perfect opportunity.
by Vita Molyneux · The MirrorAutumn is the perfect time for a weekend getaway and with the leaves changing colour and falling, it’s also a great time to go and explore the best countryside in the country.
This gorgeous hike has just been voted as the most popular in the UK, boasting archaeological ruins and remains as well as a beautiful waterfall. The Aber Falls circular trail is located in Eyri National Park in Wales. This track is 6.8 kilometres long and takes around two hours to complete - or longer if you want to take it slow and soak in the scenery.
The trail follows an easy gradient, with only a few steep descents, making it suitable for hikers of a range of difficulty levels. One thing to be aware of is this is a popular walk, so it can get very busy. If you want to avoid the crowds you’d do well to show up in the early hours to side step the tourists.
The outdoor experts at Blacks analysed AllTrails and Google search data from October 2023 to September 2024, as well as average temperatures and rainfall to reveal the best hikes to try this autumn and winter.
Aber Falls came out on top due to its relatively mild climate. The temperature in the later half of the year hovers around 8C and it has a 4.8 star rating on AllTrails.
One person who had walked the trail gave it five stars on AllTrails saying: “Super beautiful!!! We carried on and climbed the hill and found some more waterfalls so amazing!”
On TripAdvisor, the walk is described as a “must visit”. One visitor said: “Aber Falls is a spectacular waterfall which, considering its location, is probably the most visited in Wales, along Pistyll Rhaeadr.
“I got extremely lucky during my visit when huge rainstorms dumped a huge amount of rain overnight and made this waterfall into a monster. There was so much water pouring over it and with such force it was impossible to even get close to the base with all the spray flying everywhere. I got extremely wet about 20 meters from the base itself!”
