'My dentist-approved water flosser is under £20 this Amazon Prime Day – it's a game-changer'

I bought the COSLUS Water Teeth Flosser earlier this year after seeing it all over TikTok, and I've used it every day since - here's why you need to get one while it's under £20 on Amazon

Often, I find myself swayed by a late-night TikTok binge to buy somewhat unusual items, which usually end up forgotten in the back of a cupboard after a few uses. However, one gadget I purchased earlier this year has been used daily for the past six months – and is a must-have for anyone serious about their oral hygiene.

Earlier this year, while delaying sleep on the video-sharing app, I stumbled upon numerous videos about water flossers. They looked undeniably impressive, but I had doubts about their effectiveness, potential harm to teeth, and whether they were worth the investment.

Fortunately, I had a dentist appointment about a week later. During my check-up, I asked her opinion on them. I was delighted to learn that, although they "shouldn't be used as a replacement for flossing or brushing", they are a great addition to my daily routine.

With the professional's endorsement, I immediately went to Amazon and ordered the COSLUS Water Teeth Flosser. Typically priced at £29.99, the device is available in three colours - black, white, and green, reports MyLondon. I own the white version, and while it's not currently discounted, the green one is down to £17.99 as part of Amazon's Big Deal Days.

The cordless water flosser comes with a variety of jet picks, a charger and a 300ml capacity water tank, which is more than enough to clean your entire mouth in one go. To kick things off, I attached the 0.5mm ultra-fine water column, filled up the tank and got cracking.

The handy device boasts four settings: normal, soft, pulse and DIY, and I tend to switch between them depending on how tender my gums are feeling, with normal packing a bit more punch than soft.

At first, I was under the impression that water flossing would be a messy affair, but the trick lies in positioning the jet in your mouth and sealing your lips around it to prevent any water from escaping. Once you power it on, you can sense where the jet is doing its job, and you can turn it off before taking it out to spit the water.

On my first use, I was both fascinated and repulsed by what was expelled, with the potent and efficient jet having dislodged residue and food from beneath the gum line that was simply unreachable through brushing or traditional flossing alone. The 360 degree rotating nozzle makes it a breeze to clean from any angle, while still being kind to the gums. I did notice some bleeding initially, but my dentist reassured me this was completely normal.

Although the gadget is somewhat hefty, and I occasionally find it challenging to switch it off swiftly, it's generally a doddle to operate, with no need for constant refills and a battery life of 30 days, meaning it only requires charging once a month. Sometimes, I even throw in a dash of mouthwash into the water for that extra fresh sensation.

Having used it nearly every day since I bought it, I can confidently say that it's one of the best items I bought online this year, and helps me maintain that hygienist-fresh feeling between my regular check-ups. And I'm not the only one.

The flosser has racked up a 4.2 star rating from shoppers, based on more than 2,000 ratings, praising its ease of use and the dentist-fresh results. One said: "I have absolutely NO regrets buying this water flosser, battery is still going and it's been a fair few weeks, I use every day and it's very effective in cleaning my gums and between my teeth, my teeth and mouth feel so much cleaner after using this! Excellent product!"

Another added: "I am so happy with this water flosser. I have bought more expensive ones in the past but this model is much better made. Really does the job well. Yes it can be a bit messy but all water flossers I have used have been. Teeth feel so much cleaner after using this. Such a great price."

One did mention it was a bit bulky, commenting: "I've found the flosser a bit too cumbersome to handle and there are design issues on the power button. The power/speed of the flosser could be a bit more intense."
